Turbo? Supercharger? or V8 ?
Turbo? Supercharger? or V8 ?
Looking to do a major power up conversion on my 4.5 petrol GU.
Have priced a AXT Turbo Kit Drive in Drive out for $7500
Have priced a C.A.P.A supercharger kit $5,950 supplied
Have no idea what a V8 conversion may set me back(Ball park)
With a V8 some money can be recovered from my 4.5 motor
Anyone have any ideas or opinions!
i am leaning heaverly towards the Intercooled turbo (Duel fuel runing very mild boost on petrol and higher boost on gas)
Cheers Grant

Give JPC a call.
$7500 sounds expensive, plus I heard a couple of bad stories with AXTs units.
$7500 starts to sound cheap when you add it all up.
$2000 for ball bearing turbo.
$2000 for aftermarket computer (if it is like the GQ it want like being boosted with out it)
Waste gate (dunno the cost on this one)
$300 BOV
$1000 for Intercooler
Custom exhaust manifold $500
new exhuast / muffler $600
Alot of custom plumming work $????
relocating stuff in the engine bay so all this crap fits $???
These are only some ruogh prices I got off a Juzza from OnTrack (MELB).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Grant, check with your insurance company before any mods. Some of the specialist insurers may cover you for the mods but they will have an "out" where the vehicle has to be roadworthy. This could mean all mods needing to be engineered. I have been informed that an engineer will not pass a vehicle for aftermarket turbo/supercharger installs as they won't pass emissions tests. A full "bag test" is required to pass emissions at a possible cost of $10K for a one off vehicle. When I enquired with JPC about their turbo installs regarding engineers they said they can't get one and the onus is on the owner of the car.
A V8 install however will pass emissions if the engine is of the same or later vintage as the car and running standard computer.
Regards Andrew.

go the turbo
hi, go the turbo, i agree.Birdie's truck is nuts!!!, goes very well. no matter what you do youll never be happy trust me.
I like turbos because you get a rolling momentum thing then the power kicks in.
V8's are great because they are reliable with the power they put out unlike the Turbo putting pressure on your motor unless you open it up and do it the right way but = $$$$$$
Supercharges well I would not even bother.
Well if you think of it this way.
V8 but still not happy = V8 with Turbo.
