It is the THUNDERBIRDS night run.

Put on by Kim Bolton and Robert Marks.

Saturday 10th May = 4pm for a 5pm start

Centenary Lakes Park, Morayfield Road, Caboolture.

Two different runs 1 easy and 1 hard.

Cost $20.00

These guys know how to put on a good night run. They do heaps of planning - so it should be good.

It should be a good run, so anyone who can get there, make sure you do. Kym and Rob never dissapoint when they do these things.

Hey

Do you have to be a member of any club to join in; or are there any other requirements?

Thanks,

This is the first i have ever heard of one of Boltons night runs ever needing 3RD Party extensions.
Can anyone confirm this?

He must be putting something in that it is timed. (not time limit, fastest time). That's the only reason you'd need 3rd party extension.

i went on his nite run in 2002 and i had to get third party extension.
I picked mine up today at suncorp free, as thats who my compulsary third party insurance is through.
When i asked him last time he said you needed the extension as there was spectators at the hard bits, my guess is that he is just covering his arse.

3rd party extension is to cover any spectators you may injure in a timed event.

when you pay your rego you get a pink certificate saying "compulsory third party insurance information".
It tells you who your insurer is [its also written on your registration certificate]
take your certificate in to the office of your CTP insurer and ask for an extension [for racing, pacemaking use or reliability, speed or other trials]
the event is on the 10th and 11th of MAY 2003 [in case it goes past midnight] and the name of the event is "Thunderbirds 4x4 observation night run"
hope that helps....shane :D

there was an intersection missing from the map which got heaps lost.
we managed to finish the run and drove all the checkpoints but lost some points on "locker lane" and the" bike track."
The other checkpoints were the hill called "big red" and "ho che min trail"
there was 87 competitors i think .
no results were available.
i got home to gold coast at 5.45
what were you driving? i was in the red gu ute.
heaps of carnage happened early on so we were held up a lot and didnt get to checkpoint 1 until 10.30, 5 1/2 hours ! after we passed all the carnage we had a good run though.

I recieved an SMS at 2:00am to say that Alec Howie (Grumpy Gramps) from our club had just rolled on one of the checkpoints. His poor little zook takes such a hammering at the hands of the old fella. Apparently went 1 1/2 times over. Not sure of exact details yet, I'm ringing him tonight. All I know is that he and Rod (nav) aren't hurt, and it took a while to recover the vehicle. Will try to get a hold of the results off Kym and post them up.

Hey that was a good run last nite bar a few hold ups going thru the mud holes - :x we got lost on those maps as well and ended back up on the tail of about 30 cars going thru cp2. we gave up after that at about 11:30 and followed some guys out to wamuran and headed home. Must say that i was impressed with the level of cars there. i think i had one of the softest looking cars there but i still showed some how to drive the mud - 8)

yeah was a good night thanks to the organisers. we had trouble with the map too, but eventually found where we were supposed to be. it was the end of a bit line of cars so we went a different way around and did cp2 ho chi min trail. drove big red but didn't get any points, didn't get up air lokka ave, and didn't go to cp4 as it was about 1am and my flu was not being nice. only damage was a bent front spring shackle. mine was the black zook.

I was fixing the car again, so didn't make it. Sounds like it was an awesome event.

These are the tracks I usually go on, and I went out and followed all the white ribbons and arrows Sunday arvo.

How did everyone go on Big Red? This is one hill I am yet to conquer!!!!!!

well.. as this was my first nav run, we had decided to go the easy stuff. It was an awesome event. The only complaint (if any) would be it was too easy. Needed some challenges for us, cause as we are not set-up to do the hard stuff that was there, we can do medium stuff. The only reason i was in 4wd was to maintain traction in the gravel.

We stopped at the SS4 ( the big hill climb with the huge ruts). red GQ ute -broken CV...

We finished the run at about 12.30 and was back on the gold coast by 1.45am

i went down with a few other vehicles from the sunshine coast club, we didnt have to many problems with the map, but we didnt finish the event either, we left at around 12:30 and hadn't even got to the second checkpoint. we didnt leave the start untill about 7:30 and got to the first checkpoint at around 10:30. we were diverted around the first hard hill, airlocker ave i think it was because there were to many vehicles doing damage.

it was a great nite andcan't wait for the next one
