My new Zook

Post by TWISTY »

Well I just picked up me new Zook on the weekend. Am going to be using it only for offroad and hopefully get into the Tough Tracks and Superior All Terrain Challange competitions. So the 4Runner has now retired to a tow truck only, not that it ever did that much offroad anyway.

Details are:-
92 Model Body
97 Model Coily Chassis
1.6 EFI Vitari Motor
Series 3 Rockhopper Gears
Hilux diffs with 4 link front and rear
Susp and Bodylift
ARB winch bar and Warn 9000lb winch.
Custom offset 15x8 Sunny's with bald 31" bias ply claws
Rear Air Locker.

all for $4000....stoked!!!

Heres a couple pics......

Its kinda welcome back, I had a zook for a while in between my 2 4runners....but it got to small for a daily driver!! Can't wait to get back offroad in one but.....so much fun!!!

I've just got to get it enginnered and road worthied then the grinder is coming out and its going to become a totally different truck. Got some BIG plans for it....

Yeah the fibreglas top it going staright away.

I was hoping to fit 35's on it, but I'm not sure if I could get them to fit very well after flexin it with the 31's (they rub everywhere on up travel), so I might just put the 33" claws off the 4runner onto it. But major guard trimming, probably cut the whole back off into a ute, and relocate the rear diff back as far as possible. Muck around with the suspension links a little....it flex's good, but could drive a little better. Then full roll cage, tube doors and all that kinda stuff.......I'm open to any other ideas you's might have to improve things....

I'll have to bring it down and compare some stuff between your zook and mine, if you don't mind.......I put the 33's off the 4runner on it last night and it looked like heaps would have to be cut just to fit them. (15x10's wouldn't be helping) But I really wanna go 35's as the hilux diffs stuff the classes up for competition so I reckon 35's would be needed just to be competitive.

The 4runner 15x10 rims actually foul on the brake calipers in the front. Cause all my weights are on the inside of the wheel they hit the calipers, which must be bigger on the solid axle hilux's compared to the IFS 4runner.

auto parts locator just closed down, they must have sold it cheap because their 4x4ing team went down with the business.

I'm suprised i had never seen it before because i live across the road from where the owner recently moved out.

Anyway nice sierra :)

Its been up in a shed a maryborough for over a year. The old owner, Steve moved to sydney and was going to take it down there but stored it at his girlfriends parents place for the time being. But he ended up givin up on the thing as it was his daily driver in favour of a 80 series, so I scored a mates rates bargain :D

Its a bugger about Auto Parts locater too, they were awesome there!!!

The stickers are on it from a Short Course comp from Jan 2003.........

I wish I had signed the transfer papers.......I can't get a road worthy becuase of the hilux diffs....(well I haven't tried, but I'd assume I get picked up on it)......but I've hopefully found someone that will engineer it, so I'm just going to tidy it up before taking it down there.

Heres a couple of pics of it with the 15x10's and 33" claws off my 4Runner on it....looks awesome!!!

I wasn't able to drive it with them on as becuase all my balanacing weights are on the inside of the wheel they were hitting on the calipers, not allowing the wheels to spin. The 4Runner IFS calipers must be smaller than the solid axle hilux ones....????

I'm hopefully buying some 35" claws on beadlocks off a mate to put on it, but I'm still a but dodgy on how much work is going to be needed to fit them.....

In bias ply ones maybe, but the radial's measure about right don't they???

I would love 37's, but I think I am going to have enough trouble fitting 35's on the thing.

Is there pics anywhere of a coily zuke on 35's??

I still wanna be able to kinda drive this thing on the streets in QLD too, so it's got to have some kind of guard covering them.....

So a virtual lift is just moving the flare up on the guard and trimming out the useless metal below??
