corolla engines
corolla engines
I have a 1.6 corolla motor out of a 84 corolla engine model says 4a-c 1587ml will this fit to a sierra gearbox engine mounts what is involved in putting into a sierra or a lj81k ute moter had an auto on it.
to put this in the zook you will need to use the yota g/box shorten the jack shaft lengthen the front drive shaft shorten the rear drive shaft (time to move the diff back for longer wheel base) new engine mounts will need to be welded in (in front of the old ones)
I am putting the 4AGE into my zook at the moment but i am putting hilux front springs in the rear of my zook and the rear diff will be getting moved back at least 100 mm so i might not have to shorten the rear drive shaft on mine

if you shorten the jackshaft enough(2x1 litre yokes welded together)
you don't need to move the trans case ,or lengthen the f/shaft.but the radiator is a tight fit.
also the eng mounts on mine are bolt in(easier to go back to stock later if need be).
on a long w/base you can swap the driveshafts front & back to move the t/case i think its about 100mm difference otherwise custom length shafts can get expensive.
ive done 5 ge gze zooks so far, from both 1 litre & 1.3 litre
just my 2c worth
flyinwall if you want to move the t/case use a l/wheelbase rearshaft in the front (less hassle)

re
It would be more ideal to put this engine into my lj80 trayback (long wheel base) i am unsure on the power of this engine but will look into supercharger and getting some real power out off what ever goes into it. the lj is a start from scratch project now just a rolling shell so it will have to be rewelded chassis for the suspention anyway as it will be lux steup anyone know on power output or specs what can be done and how well they do up

DREW: You mentioned that your motor mounts are bolt in?? Can you place explain further. Where did you get bolt in mounts. Do they bolt in to the factory sierra mounts? I am also planning this conversion, mine will be much simpler do to the fact my suzuki is a factory 2wd, no front diff to hit the oil pan and no transfer case to fit. just a motor with tranny running the rear wheels.
First was the motor a fwd or rwd, they came both ways? If it was a rwd then your in good shape, if not there will be more mods needed. The guys over on www.club4ag.com are very helpful, with tons of knowledge. There are 2 5 speed tranny's that came with the 4a motor. the one on your 85 was a k-50 (cable clutch) the ones on the later 4a motors were a t-50 (hydrolic clutch) keep this I mind when looking for your tranny both will bolt right up. The cable type is easier to swap but not as strong as the t-50. If your planning to do the 4AGZE (supercharged) you have to go the t-50 (hydrolic) route. I was told that the k-50 (cable) could handle up to the 175 hp with light street driving. Your 85 motor is about 100 hp, the later 87-89 is 120hp and 89-92 140 HP.
Wow that was a ton of thinking.
Hope this info helps

The left mount is the bolt in, just made from 100mm wide 10mm thick plate.
the right is a hole drilled in the mount plate on the chassis between the 2 originals.
use rwd ae71 or ae86 mounts on the block.
zuku26 for your zuk being 2wd you can move the eng further back .
It should be easier to mount a hydraulic clutch being left hand drive.
flyinwall i'll make a list of whats involved & try to post some pics
just give me some time i've got heaps on at the moment
