Hey i got a 87 sierra 1.3L is there anything on there to change to winter driving?

Put the soft top back on, and clean the pine needles out of the vent
it is that easy.

seriously, if you plan any alpine driving, do the anti-freeze bit and if you are running road tyres, its time to upgrade or get some wheel chains (or both).

I assume your taking about your airbox. 1.3 airboxes dont have a switch they always draw air through the snokel side inlet and the exaust side inlet together. If you want this option then you could eithr make something to block the holes or else fit a 1l airbox.

Yes do they do have a switch. It is a manual affair. On the WT there is a Vacume controlled one.

On mine it is always drawing through the snorkel side as i dont have the warm air feed.

Hey, just an addition to this

I am wondering how much it usually costs to have bearings tightened? THey told me they were loose ages ago so i went and had them tightened and they asked me how much i was quoted and i said $20.. so thats how much i got it done for

they said they put a lot of work into it and usually it was like $40 minimum

Any guys had this done before and how much work is it really? and whats it worth

new wheel bearings are 20bucks
tightening means turning a nut on the hub, get yourself a tool and do it yourself, make sure its the right torque setting.

On the rears, don't you have to pull the backing plate and brakes off? also the axle...

I don't know what your talking about cause I got 2 1.3 sierras and they both got it.

it is before the filter housing. if you have the pipe from the extractors still there, it will connect at a T piece . This is where the switch is. May be a lever or two hose connections depending on what carby setup it has.

Yep. it normally has something like -5, 0-5, 10+ or something on it (positions for degees ambient temp) but there are a couple of proviso's:


Many of us have never adjusted it and often remove it entirely, it doesn;t seem to have any effect unless you have a snorkel ( and the flap inside leaks mud anyway)

unless the funny foil hose that connects this valve is in excellent condition (they almost never are) and is properly connected to the heat sheild on the manifold, it wont do anything anyway.

Is there actually meant to be a hose going to that one way valve at the front ?

My and my mate were looking over the Sierra and we assumed they don't come with it because you wouldn't need it here.

They are meant to have one there. Mine was about 1/2m long when i got the drover but it lasted till i took it offroad the first time ( bout 1 day). I have now blocked it up with tape so water and mud does not get chucked in there.

Well I'll add that to the list of parts that have gone missing between me owning it and it coming out of the factory.
