I know this isn't the answer to your question and it isn't terribly constructive but .....

IMO you would be better off going for a 3.9 or 4.6 EFI than a 4.4 if yours is stuffed. The 4.4s are a very old engine now and the work involved in fitting them and making all you accessories like AirCon work is hardly worth the bother,

If you can get them cheap then give it a go but I would look at it as a project more than an upgrade in the short term.

i thought the 4.4s are a newer motor than the 3.9.

all i was gonna do is use everything from my motor, just use the block an heads from larger motor - that way everythign is standard

4.4 is from the 1970's Leyland P76 or it is a bored out 3.5 that is the only way to get them. The 3.9 was first introduced in about 1990 and then the 4.0 and 4.6 were delveloped for the p38 rangie in 1994 (these years are off the top of my head but they will be close)

Unless you are talking about the BMW 4.4 from the L322 rangie ?

I will dig up some threads on the coversions and what is required

im getting some other work done on the motor in the next couple of weeks but a rover mechanic, so ill see what he recomends. he has mentioned that a freshened up 3.5 can be pretty good with the right cam etc anyway - this might be the better way to go.

the other thing i just realised, i was actually asking about the 4.4 BLOCK AND HEADS, that other thread speaks of the 4.4 Block with 3.5 heads.
