Just got hold of a Warn 8274 Hi Mount. I believe it's an older model with the 4.6? HP motor. It ran when it came off the previous fourby.
Now I know Warns aren't waterproofed, but this has silicone around the motor etc. Is that all they need? The solenoids were a bit muddy under the plastic cover too.
Questions:
Is there anything I should be wary of? Any little tricks to them?
Would the solenoids be OK?
Do I need breathers etc? It's just being used for recreational use only.
Should I just pull it apart and look? Is it easy?
Or should I just take it to a fourby oint to check it out?
Just wanting to get up to speed with this thing. All your help is appreciated.

The common things that are done to the highmounts are
1/ Bracing the rear of the gearbox to the end plate like a lowmount
2/ Tap a drain plug and fill plug for ease of servicing
3/ Waterproofing as you described
4/ Motor upgrade to 6hp or 24V. (mainly for competition use)
5/ Heat sink on the end of the motor for cooling (mainly for competition use)
6/ Taping air lines into the motor to aid cooling (mainly for competition use)
The solenoid packs are fairly hardy items. You can goto some hardware or electronic (like Jaycar) and get some electical contact cleaner. Carby Clean or Brake Clean will do pretty much the same thing.
I'm sure there are some things I missed but that will get you started. There are a couple of places in Melbourne that can service and do modifications if you need them done or you can contact Dave Metcalfe in QLD on 0418 745 830
