If/ when I put 4.88's in the cruiser.. will they be stronger or weaker than the existing ones????

Weaker as they'll require less effort to turn them, just
don't smash it in reverse and they should be fine.

some brand of gear manufactures are better than others too, spose it comes back to you get what u pay for

When going lower diff gears (higher number) the pinion gear gets smaller (less teeth) as the crownwheel cant get bigger (wont fit in housing) there is less gear tooth contact to spread the load and less teeth contacting the crown wheel so thats why they are generally weaker.
