Looking at buying a LUX
I'm looking at buying a lux , 4x4 of course, round the 80 to mid 80's years. And wondering is there anything i should be looking out for?
i am also looking at bying one have had a look at some and they have all been full of rust that is the only thing that i have been able to folt with most of them and i would also like to have one with a fresh rebuilt motor not with 300,000ks on it and about to blow not wat i need with limited money.
zook
look for a work truck with relatively low k's and if you can afford it get something newer than 1988 (ln106), i picked up my 95 lux for $14500 a few years ago, was an ex work truck and low k's and was in top condition. Being a work truck you could assume it hasnt been hardcore offroading. Make sure its not IFS (surf, sr5, 4runner etc) if you plan on doing serious wheeling unless you want to SAS it.

picked up a clean 95 dual cab 3L thru Brisbane the other day, 230k (70k on reco motor), no rust, upgraded suspension, snorkel, canopy, barwork, hella 4000's etc. Cost? $12k. Searched for ages for this on, found in the Courier Mail.
will probably end up closer to $15k - needs new front swivel seals, replace timing belt, freight etc. Will definitely install Electronic Rust Prevention next month. Basically it was the rust and running gear that influnced my purchasing decision. The extras are welcome sweetners though. Also there was a stock 94 red twin cab 3L in the classifieds not so long ago?

LN106 is
Dual Cab 2.8D up to 1996 with Solid Axel front end.
I have one spent 20k on mine 6months ago . Paid too much but traded a lemon. (The car yard still has my old car 6 months on.)
But it did come with
Rear Lockers Arb protection all round, Ranch 9000, and 2" Ome lift.
Plus in Quite good nick with low KM's.

Hilux Slug 2.8D
Look around there is thousands to choose from. I saw a 1990 ln106 single cab in norhtern nsw a coupla months ago, stock as a rock but with deisel, about 200 000kms in top condition for $6000.
ln106 is the rounder model from 89 thru to 97 with deisel, rn106 same but with petrol.
The squarer model b4 that prolly more in your price range, 83 to 87, ln65 (deisel), rn65 (petrol).
If a truck is an sr5 model it means top of the range, would have nicer trim, these models fetch a fair bit more than others.
