60 series Filter Light

60 series Filter Light
On the dash in the HJ60 series is a "filter" light.
Can anyone tell me if this is the warning light to the water sensor unit bolted to the inside chassis rail below the rear driver side door??? It has been disconnected on my rig and replaced with a higher volume "Holley Blue" pump to get the correct PSI to feed the V8 donk.
This light is now constantly on.. I'm thinking it's just maybe shorting out somewhere????

Traced the wires from where it comes in under the drivers seat, across to the passenger side just infront of the seat, then under the sill cover.... up into a loom that goes ???? into the dash somewhere.
So I pulled the speedo/tacho/ etc cluster off... so bloody hard to trace cause they all go into plugs and there's that many damn wires.. .. thinkin I might just get the auto elec to look at it...

Nup, the wires still have the original plug on the end, so can't see how they'd be connected... but will double check that in the morning. Thanks.

I have 2 lights for filters.
One is the air filter pressure differentiation light for clogged air filters and the other one is for the sedimenter (water trap under the chassis rail).
I believe in the earlier 60's, the filter light was wired to both. Not sure on this though.
Other than that, i guess there has to be a short.
Although, when i was having charging problems, my filter light used to come on with various other lights. Turned out to be a crook regulator.

Which regulator was this??? After the filter light came on, I noticed one of the wires to the Alternator was melted. I cut the old connector off and put a new one on... no probs now, but the light is still on. Think the prob might be this regulator that you're talking about.

This is the voltage regulator that bolts to the inside of the front passenger quarter panel, next to the radiator overflow bottle.

Can anyone tell me about the water sensor unit? Just wondering what it does and how i can test its actually working. Took mine out today and emptied the filthy rusty coloured fuel out of it and noticed that one of the wires coming out of it had broken off. So i have fixed it all up but still have my doubts weather its working or not. My FILTER light comes on when the ignition is turned on, then goes off once car has been started, but it still does this even when the wires are not hooked up.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

i think it has a float on it, which will raise when the level of water in it becomes too much, thus completing a circut. you could pull that out, push the float up and check for continutity on the wires.vanzbrown wrote:Instead of starting a new topic, i thought id tac onto this one...

I had to replace the water trap on mine due to a leak. the one i picked up had a different plug on it, so it isn't connected. i just drain it when i do the other fuel filter, and probably will pull it right out and clean it out when the motor starts cutting out again.

pretty much. i didn't clamp the lines though, i just tucked them up a bit so fuel wasn't pouring out. I cleaned it out with petrol, and filled it back up with diesel before putting it back on.
