Speed.
Speed.
What speed is everyone's zooks doing down the highway? Can you sit on 100? What about around town. I went driving in a geared zook with 32's and I didn't think they would be as slow as it was. Just wondering how everyone elses go.
215/75r15 tyres, vit 1.6L with weber 32/36, extractors and 2" pipe... 4th gear 5500rpm = 140km/hr (on a dyno). ive done 160km/hr in 5th and its scary (not the speed, just the fine)... was doing about 4200rpm at 160km/hr in 5th so prolly get it up to 180-190 if i wanted. this was with a slight headwind too!
the 1.3L in 5th had no worries doing 150km/hr either - i got the fine to prove it... haha got done slowing down... 134km/hr in 90 zone. i can only assume the 1.3 did 150 though as its where 150 would sit if it were on the speedo... with the 215's it may have been 160, maybe 145... no idea.

Alien - i think he means how it goes with legal speeds.
I have 31's 3.9ratios and 1ltr case. is fine on road - will sit on 100 easy at about 3000rpm.
speedo is broken now so driving by the tacho.
cheers

how do i get the speed or how i get the rpm to speed?
rpmto speed done by CB and mobile phone over a few occasions to a few new(ish) cars...
speed... well... i put my foot down and hold on for dear life =P hehe.. old carby was jetted larger, the 1.6 with weber is correctly jetted and tuned also... so yes it opens up all the way when foot flat

*ding ding* CORRECT. funny enough, its true. and you can really feel the difference in response too.Polar_Bear wrote:speed also depends if your hubs are locked, my vitara will go about 10 - 15 kms faster if my hubs are unlocked
i raced a ricer once in my vit, gave it a good go, bonnet to bonnet. then another time, just by co incidence, we lined up again, and i gave it to him left right and centre.
my hubs were unlocked in the second run. needless to say, he never lined me up again. true story.

never would have thunk it... i drive hubs locked all the time... its not engaged at the transfer so who cares =) i spose the extra weight on the front wheels from turning the axles would increase momentum in the front marginally but never thought it would affect speed - hence it likely affects economy too...

economy? geeezus, dont start. hubs locked can roughly see a 30% - 45% reduced economy rate (in my vit anyway, measured pedal floored with secondary open all the time)alien wrote:never would have thunk it... i drive hubs locked all the time... its not engaged at the transfer so who cares =) i spose the extra weight on the front wheels from turning the axles would increase momentum in the front marginally but never thought it would affect speed - hence it likely affects economy too...
but its still fun, until that dreaded seal starts to leak again.

First 4by was a siera, had to spend a fair bit on bearings, starter, bushes and cooling system but engine and tcase/gear box was still strong at 160,000+km, was running 235 at's. did 110 on freeway fine with no wind or incline, could do 110 up most hills in 4th but it was revvin hard. Got it off speedo once way past 140 down long hill, was sort of scary and very loud, rpm was also at about 6800 just waiting for it to pop. Smelt a little funky after but the little things are almost unbreakable. only ever broke engine and gbox mounts thrashing the guts out of it on beaches, paddocks and dirt roads. It also cornered amazingly on the road considering, with no suspension mods lent a little then stopped, could keep up or better many imports and others down deserted freeways and country roads, just lacked power on the straights. should have seen their faces in the mirrors when they think a little zook is going to pass them on a very fast and winding road through a corner .e.g. old Adelaide freeway (eagle on the hill run). amazing llittle trucks. Sort of wishing had never got rid of mine Rangies cost so much to run (needed better long distance 4by and always wanted a RR).
Whats the brake???????????????

I used to have a great time racing other vehicles in my Zuk when she was still little .. used to have a great race a couple of days a month with a little red alpha on my way home from work .. had no idea of his name etc .. but I raced him one day, he won .. just .. after that we would occasioanlly find each other on the same bit of road with several 2 lane round abouts abd a few good turns etc .. I would get him under brakes into and out of the corners .. he would thrash me in the strait,s
Fastest I ever got to in my Zuk acccording to the GPS was a shade over 160 . slight downhill, 1.6, mild cam and headwork (larger valves, port matched etc) on 32 BFG's ..
Even with 33 swampers and just a 4.16 T/case it would easily sit on 100+ on flat roads uphills downshift to 4th would see you easily stay on 100+ ..
Sucked a bit of juice though .. I loved that motor .. for a carbed 1.6 it pulled bloody hard .. (would run most 16v EFi's)

the zook he went for a spin in is mine and the motor is stuffed . I run 32 and s3 rockhopper but it will still sit on 110 down the highway. im putting the new motor in for the logan night run on the weekend it should be a bit faster then. The funny thing is when i took him for a drive it was around town and the zook stands out a bit so you want to get done for speeding.
