Spare tyre in back of zook.
Spare tyre in back of zook.
Hey
I am planning to relocate the spare into the back of the zook to aid the rear door to staying on the vehicle. At the moment because of rust it is trying to break off.
Will a 31 sit in between the rear arches and still allow room for recovery gear + toolbox? would maybe sitting it verticle on the passenger side better?
Any pics of designs to look at?? A new rear bar is in the future when have space and more time to work that out. Looking at quick ideas.
cheers

i used to have the spare in the back standing up on the passenger side tied to the rollbar. it looked pretty tuff being there with the roof off but it wont fit with the back seat in. Im thinking of trying to make a swing away tyre carrier and converting the door to a drop down tailgate but like most things i wanna do they never get done.

This is what i was thinking of doing. If you a pic of yours lying down it would be great. Mine has draws at the moment so can't easily do it at the moment. Trying to visualise size of toolbox that could fit including the spare.

1x31x10.5
1 small toolbox + recover gear behind seat.
a mean feet in the zook. it can be done.

a 31" tyre can easily fit between the wheel wells in the rear of a sierra lying down.
hey nicbeer, if you are not going to have back seats anymore, then why dont you make a draw system that fits in the back between the wheel wells, and strap the spare on top of the draws/deck?
a removable draw system is always handy too.
let me see if i can find a photo.

Hey skid.
no backseats. never had them in longer than 1 month.
I have looked at that. A pic would be great.
The only thing i have woried about is the weight of the 31 being bounced on top of the draws.
cheers

What thinkness wood is used and how is it constructed? Angle in corners or butt joint.
Would it hold up to a 31" weight on it.

its 18 mm mdf hmr(high moisture resistance)
i rebated and housed all of it no angle is used then glues and screwed
that could eaisly hold the weight of a 31
just need to bolt it down to the seat mounts and bolt the tyre to the top easy reallly i could make that set up for my zook thou am lazy

You might get away with 12mm ply if you have 2 drawers and a solid divider in the middle. You could even put a steel plate in the middle with a steel post to another plate on the bottom. A few wheel studs on the top plate and the spare could be bolted on.
Just a few thoughts on the run.
Cheers

What happens with a little bit of rust and a 31" on the rear carrier.
