75series leaf springs into a 60????
OK, here's the theory.....
I want to put some 75 series rear springs in the rear of my 60. When doing this, the diff will be relocated approx 55mm rearwards. Now I'm guessing, to rectify that problem I would need a new locating plate made up to get it back to the original position. Which would go inbetween the spring pack and axle??? Any Ideas????
In total, the rear springs will be approx 155mm longer than standard ones to allow me to use extended shackles.
I'm also looking at throwing the rear springs from the 60 into the front. This will send the front diff 15mm forward too. This I'm not too concerned about at the moment, but will get a drive shaft spacer made up when I get the chance to stop the shafts splitting apart at full droop.
And the fronts will be approx 120mm longer than standard too..
Soooo, throw any suggestions at me.... I'm open to ideas/criticism!!!

Nah, I've got 2 inch extended shackles and at the moment they are at a 90 degree angle to the chassis with stocko springs. So i figure that getting longer springs will make the shacke angle better for ride and articulation. Maybe even extend them to 3 inch extended shackles if I can get away with it and put the 2 inch ones on my other rig.Sixty wrote:Are you getting the 75 spings 're-curved' to fit the 60 mounts? 155mm longer springs would mean youd need extended shackles 219mm longer than standard if the desired shackle angle was 45 degrees. Since the actual desired shackle angle is closer to 60 or 70, i think the shackles actually need to be even longer!
this is all based on geometry i havent used since high school
so your looking at shackle lengths closer to 10" longer than standard if you want the factory shackle angle, using springs that are 155mm longer., and this would be extremely unsafe lol
basically, a 2" extended shackle will end up being a total of about 5", so by increasing the length of the spring by 6", your 5" shackle would be 0 degrees with respect to the chassis. (spring would be touching chasis)
only option is to move the shackle mount location forward, or to re-arch the springs (lift)
moving the shackle mount forward would probably be a bad thing on a 60 series, as youl probably run into problems with your approach angle, and when wheels turned to lock the shackle and spring will be exposed to damage even more than it currently is.

Shadow...not that it changes it much but i think the idea more relates to rear springs not front.
Brighty...i think you'd have to remove some leaves from the 75 series packs due to them being a much heavier rated spring...unless of course you want a s*hithouse ride. When i was looking into i actually calculated the change in length of the spring to be 122mm difference.
In addition to putting the 75 series rears in i had thought about putting the 60 rears up front. That would give 102mm longer spring up forward.
Obviously if your put longer springs in the front your:
a) if the diff locating pin is in a different position you are going to change the position of the diff considerably.
b) you will upset castor angle.
i personally couldn't see there being big issues with the rear apart from getting the shackle location and angles set up nicely.
I am keen to hear other responses and ideas aswell....

Ok, so I want to run 3inch extended shackles withthe 75series springs.... this means I'm going to need to relocate the rear shackle mount, I figure thats not the hard part.
What about the relocation of the rear diff back into it's original position?? Making another plate to go between the spring pack and the diff housing??? What to make it out of and best way to do it???
Also, if I'm going to run the 3inch extended shackles up front, this is going to alter the castor angle. What degree wedge can I/should I get(or make) to rectify this???

you can get about 1.5 inches back towards stock by using the relocation plates... or alternatively just drill another hole in the spring perch and spring plate to accept the spring pin...

If you mean, does the pin sit in the centre of the spring in relation to it's length (I measured along the curve of the springs to get an "actual length"..... then,bad_religion_au wrote:couple of questions

1. No (From centre of spring eye on the fixed end, to the pin is approx 570mm along the curve of the spring)
2. No (From centre of spring eye on the fixed end, to the pin is approx 625mm along the curve of the spring)

i'm building up some info on springs
60 series rear, eye to eye(along the curve) 1235mm
60 series front, eye to eye(along te curve) 1115mm
75 series rear, eye to eye(along the curve) 1390mm
The 60 series measurements were taken off my stocko 60(non lifted).. and I went to the wreckers and measured up the rears of a 75 series troopie. Not sure if it makes a difference if they are lifted springs or not, so the troopie's ones could be either standard or lifted. Figure that lifted springs would be the same length just have a steeper curve to them...
Post up here again if you are doing anything of the like to your rig and we can try to keep all the info together.
