I have hust purchased yj springs and a kit to bolt them in to suzuki sierra. I am now considering what diffs to use. I have seriously been considering toyota hilux diffs, but they seem a little wide to hide and can't b made legal. I am now thinking about YJ wrangler diffs, does anyone know much about them, or where I can find out some info?
It would be good to find out;
the ratios
The distance between wheel studs
whether the gears can be changed
whether the centres and axles from newer jeeps can be used in the yj housing, just so I dont have trouble finding parts later on.
I would have to use yj housings because they were designed to bolt up to leaf springs.....
Can anyone tell mewhere the centres sit/ will they be suitable for the suz?
I see chat is pretty slow in the jeep section but all help would be greatly appreciated.

Just finished putting a V6 Holden engine in to a Volkswagen Kombi.
Currently putting a supercharged 1.6L Corolla motor in to a Stockman Ute.

mate i have some bad news for you - australia never got dealer delivery YJ's. and therefore axles are only available on the few grey imports running around.
the front axles however are the same as in the front of a TJ (passenger side drop) but the back is a Dana 35 (center output) and rare for the reasons stated above. the only reason you'd want YJ's is for the spring perches i'm guessing?
to be honest don't even bother working out jeep stuff, it's just not worth it - go hilux diffs for sure (but check with an engineer 1st as i fear your ability to go that route).

YJ diffs = Yuk....
The rear diff is a D35c....no where near as good as the TJ D44.
The front diff has a vaccum disco (POS) unlike the TJ. But also the early YJ's had weaker Uni's than the TJ too.....
All round I wouldn't bother with YJ diffs unless you're looking for landfill
