Ruff, that 80 Series ute was in the Pajero Club Challenge (for about 1hr before it broke down) I posted a pic of it in that thread, that was it's first offroad outing apparently has a 454 donk and sounds mean as..............

Mrs Drafty mentioned about the local ARB centre being open 24 hrs. Dennis Oliver, the owner of Silver City 4WD, actually sleeps in his swag on his workshop floor for the duration of the event. And he doesn't just help the competitors either. I was down there officialling last year, and one of the officials on our stage blew three tyres setting out one of the GPS stages, and we drove him 3 1/2 hour back into Broken Hill to try and get some more. We went to Silver City 4WD (the only place open) and asked if they could help us. This was about 10:00pm the night before the main competition started (Prologue was earlier that day). Dennis not only offered us a set of Simex JT2's he had there, he also fitted them onto the rims for us. The guy is just a legend. He also allowes the competitors the use of his workshop for free. If they require parts, then they pay for just the parts. Very cool indeed. 8)

I spoke to Sam late this arvo they went ok last night they were not the fastest up the creek but they deffianatly were not the slowest. They damaged the front diff in the first round of the prologue this morning but still finished the stage but they were 5min too late getting it back together to run the second round

Hopefully they have a little more luck for the rest of the week.

Sam said they are having a ball and its defianatly been interesting. They have met some very nice people and so far it sounds like they will be back next year.

No, sorry. Haven't heard anything. At the moment, they'd be on their first transport stage. If they are anything like last year's transport stages, they wont have a lot of time to send messages. Also, once you get about 30 mins out of Broken Hill, you lose mobile phone service. (About 45 mins if you have a CDMA phone). As far as I can work out, there is five comp areas this year. "Denien" is the sand stage, a property near "Wilga" is the mud, "Poolamacca" is rock, Nundooka is a combination of rock, water and mud (which is more like quick-sand.), and I think they are using "The Veldt" again this year. That's where they had the "Cliffhanger" stage last year. "Denien" is about 1 3/4 hours south-east of Broken Hill near Menindee. "Wilga" is is roughly an hour east of Broken Hill, along the Barrier Hwy. "Poolamacca" is about 1 1/2 hours north of Broken Hill, along the Silver City Hwy. "Nundooka" is about 2 1/2 hours north of Broken Hill, also along the Silver City Hwy. And "The Veldt" is about 1/2 hour south-west of "Nundooka". So, the guys have some pretty long transport stages. For example, the transport from "Denien" to "Nundooka" is about 4 1/2 hours plus fuel stop. They probably only get given 4 3/4 hours to do this in! They're main fuel stop is the Packsaddle Roadhouse along the Silver City Hwy. Last year, the roadhouse sold $14500 in fuel to competitors alone for the week. Fuel prices were like $1.20/L for unleaded, and $1.45/L for diesel! But, you have no choice, gotta have go-juice.

They have left the Line of Load and are at the Nine Mile ( 12 klm out of Broken Hill and have phone service ) where they are camping for the night and then have a 4.30am start to Poolamacca for the metal masher.

Thanks Mrs. Drafty. They're doing things a little different to last year. Last year, the competitors were split into groups after Prologue, and set out to their first stage at about 10:00pm. Mostly arriving at around midnight to Perc Ferme. Then out of bed for a 6:00am start on their first SS.
They are doing "Metal Masher" first??? Holy crap. That's a stage I'd rather do at the end of the week. It's 9km of big rocks done at breakneck speeds. Few get through without damage.

Last years grouping took to long, we hung around for ages. They were put into there groups before they even arrived. Our guys are in group E.

If they can make it thru with NO or VERY LITTLE damage during metal masher then they should have a good run the rest of the course.

Just spoke with Al Tierney from our club. (he was spun out that he was getting phone calls from Brissy!) He's also in Glen, Sam and Drafty's group at Nine Mile. He's naving for Tony Ryan in the extra cab GQ Nissan Patrol. He tells me there are four international teams in their group. Prologue was run pretty much the same as last year, with some slight alterations to the course. They recorded low 2 minutes on both Prologue courses, but times were getting down to 1 minute 45's. He doesn't know of too much carnage so far. Glen's front diff, Celia Barry in the Vitara is out due to terminal gearbox problems, and Mark Johnson has had turbo dramas. They did a run up Steven's Creek on Saturday night, which he said was the same as the first SS in 2001, except the course went up the creek and back this time. He said it was awesome fun, as they were getting unbelievable speeds up.

All i know is that the green bobtail rangie is kicking some major ass so far in the prologue it has been recording some of the best times and is reported to be the fastest rangie there.

glen had a brand new front riong and pinion with him, im sure sam would have bootie-fabbed it up.

They are having a good time of corse, i would be to if i was up there.I didn't go cos i didn't think my little beast would make it down some of the tracks you need to go to spectate. Drafty told me to take his truck but i can't drive it. They did very minor damage on Sat night, it was all fixed and reren to go for the Prologue. Drafty's bro drove the first part of the course and he drove the second, he enjoyed it but i think he will leave the driven for his bro to do cos he knows just how far he push it.
Spewen big time i'm not there to see em this year. :(

Mrs. Drafty, what vehicle was Drafty's brother in last year? Just curious as I got to know a lot of the competitors last year. I probably even met you guys when you's went to Pincally station. I was one of the officials on that stage.
