snorkel on a coily

Post by zookwithdreams »

I know this was talked about a year or so ago but the pics no longer work

I boughtan airflow snorkel (were going to make a pipe one but this was very cheap so will save me dollars as well as IMHO look better) and wondering were other coily owners ran it through eg front middle or back of the indicator hole, how they cut the hole and what they did with the indicator.
Pics would be great

And now time to chime ;)

Yeah I ran snorkle through blinker hole slightly enlarged of course

I wouldn't run a snorkle again

with a bit of lift the height of the air intake is higher than any water I would drive through

It's also important to note that the Airflo snorkel for a Sierra is a real compromise as it was originally made for a Rocsta and retro'd to the Sierra and shorty 40'. Airflo also do the same with a Discovery snorkel to suit the Feroza and Rocky.

The Airflo snorkel will fit any model Sierra but as shown you will have to relocate the blinker on the coily (the same goes for the SJ70 9/91-4/96). The bastard thing about the Sierra snorkel is that Airflo didn't research and develop the product at all before releasing the product. If you fit the way that they say you won't connect the snorkel and what I mean by that is that you'd ultimately have to remove the battery to run the air hose through the engine bay to the air cleaner. The hose they supply isn't long enough any which way. I recommend cutting the first tier of the snorkel and get hold of 42mm ID (need 50mm OD but plumbers work in ID) Iplex pressure elbow from a plumbers supply shop and adapt to the snorkel (there is a little more to it than this but this is the basics). This will allow for the air hose supplied in the kit to be run up the inside of the guard to the air cleaner box. Even then Airflo are renowned for not supplying enough length in the hose.

Hope this helps, otherwise PM me and I'll be happy to help.
