Chev Conversion
Want to put a chev in my Gq Where is the best place to start, Rod shop, Marks Adapters, Any ideas???
Re: Chev Conversion
Are you doing the work?
You supplying the donk? You supplying adapters etc?
Do you want drive in drive away service?
Seems not to be as many good stores in Vic doin this shit anymore, its gettin harder to get things legal (thats why one bloke stopped doin it)...
Try Marks Adapters
or
Sandy at Aus4wd in Bayswater

Chev Conversion
Thanks But want to run the 5 speed as i have one in the car?? I Will do most of the work myself, but would be nice to get as many 'Bolt ons" engine mounts etc as i can. I Have a few Small Blocks in the shed so will be rebuilding and using one of those to use? I would like to pick someones Brain as to the best way to go about it? Maybe someone who has done the conversion before and knows the pitfalls??
go marks adapters
they supply you with engine mounts
weld or bold the engine mounts to the chassis.
the mods you will have to make are just things like power steering and AC and engine wireing.
Also, one thing to remember is front spring rates, when you put the SBC she will be lighter in the front end, ( moreso with a th700r4 conversion) so you may have to anchor her down with a bar/winch or get new springs....

The VH45 motors strike me as being appealing in theory, but not a particularly good choice for a fourby. The power output is higher up in the rev range, and the total torque available has got to be less than with the chev motor (ie, the area under the graph, the torque across the full rev range).
Plus, it's just gonna cost more time and effort to get it working.

This is not legal advice.
Build a nice chev wit a strocker kit for heaps of torque. It puts out sumtin like 850nm of torque for his shorty. He got his front wheels 200mm off the ground. It was sik. And he used a turbo 700 with a manual valve body. Cost him a arm and a leg though to do the conversion (mostly build the high torque motor) and now he is winging bout the fuel economy.

Then he's a twit.
You dont build a tough chev if you're worried about fuel economy... those damn things are petrolcooled.
just fitted an injected 383 vortec chev V-8
to a GQ ute that started out as a TB42 patrol
Marks adpters is your frend for everything
belhousing
clutch setup
