Wheel bearings
I'm just changingt the front wheel bearings in my 91 lux. In the box wth the new bearings is what looks like an oil seal with an inside diameter of about 32mm. does anyone know what this is for?
Also, can someone confirm, does the inner bearing race need to be pressed out or can it be removed by the home mechanic (me).
Thanks

The closest thing the seal will fit over is the axle/cv shaft but it's too big for that. I'm stumped. Unless its a universal bearing kit, and the seal is for another vehicle, its useless, it won't fit anywhere.spazbot wrote: the oil seal goes into the back of the hub infront of the inside bearing from memory

do you mean it fits over the spindle that sticks out when you pull the disk and hub off
the seal im talking about is the one that goes over the wheel bearing on the inside

Yeah, the spindle that sticks out, but it doesn't even fit that.
I've got the one in the pic sorted.
I think I'll just forget about that little oil seal, unless someone says otherwise. It just doesn't fit.
cheers

Its an easy job, you just got to know how to set the shims up for your swivell bearings. 9 times out of 10 you just use the original ones.
