308 Alternator upgrade

Post by tbjaus2000 »

I think my bearings in my alternator are on their way out. Can anyone suggest a good upgrade to replace it?

Alts from later model cars are generally up around 85 amps or bigger, police cars run a 130 amp alt but are rare in the wrecker yards ( unless you have mates in the force ;) )

A rebuild wont cost that much for just a set of bearings but once ya in there brushes etc will add to the cost of the overhaul

An 85 amp alt @ the wreckers should set ya back around the $80 mark.

you can buy a 120 amp alternator off a VS and VT v8s from any bosch dealer. they go on to old style alternator brackets with only the nut being cut off for the top mount bolt for the alternator. i think they are around $300
