Really?? We use a Tube bender on Pipe all the time. Bends Perfect. You just need to get the right Formers.

We use a Speedworks Air/Hydro bender.

Got my Speedworks Air/Hydro bender today WOW these are great I should have got one years ago. money well spent for accuracy
Got a web site on these?
Also how much did it set you back? (if you dont mind me asking?)

ok, i was talking to a bloke today about pipe benders. it suddenly occured to me that a thicker wall on the pipe would obviously be harder to bend. to make a set of sliders with some 4mm wall pipe, will a 16 tonne press do the job?????

Just wondering , Not that you can tell heaps from a pic but ,
I got a bender and had to bend somthing , so this is the suff i.ll be making my frame from these are my first two bends , this was with the provided former for 32nb ,
will the Dawn die make a great difference ?
I checked the super cheap bender , the dies still had heaps of casting marks motelling the surface , even what seemed to be a seam thru the centre of the 40 die,
The one i got was a actually cheaper then the super cheap and the dies seem much better , Buggered if i know

But heres 2 pics of 2 bends ,will the dawn die do better ?, one is about 100deg
other 95 , Going past deforms the material more, Just wondering worth spending another $100 or so .

the cheap bender i bought recently is rated at 16 tonne, and has bent 32NB with 3.2mm wall, the pipe is slightly loose in they die, as i have imperial dies, but i will be looking at some metric diesin the future,

and i paid $179

I have a 16Tonne cheapo bender too. We've used it on 40nm 3.7mm wall with good success.
The dies gave us about 8 bends before they started getting a bit sloppy 0 but that was enough - and now I'm just gonna buy some better quality dies......
money no object I'd have a tube Shark in my garage :finger:

My cheapy bends 32NB great.
I have bent up some sliders for the wifes zook.
I have solved the denting of the pipe from the rollers simply by placing a piece of angle iron between the pipe and the rollers to spread the load. It works a treat.

Larry the cheap die will work fine for a little while then they start to spread and thats when they start kinking the tube. The dawn die is a lot stronger and doesn't suffer from this problem.
We use a JD3 bender from the states is awsum have the hydro attatchment know which makes it even better. Will bend 180 degrees no worries. Will actully go further is just hard to get the tube out of the die.

the dawn die won't kink the internal surface of the bend like the tube you have there. it also won't flatten out the bend like those ones. those bends look good untill you put a bend done with the dawn dies (or a real bender) next to them, then they look shithouse.

If the JD3 were to be imported to OZ with a die or two for less than $1500 it would be comparable to speedwerx price. Does anyone know if it can be done?

ThX Wendle ,

Well heres a pic for people that don,t know what where on about ,

The Dawn is the top one and is a bigger radius so that in its self should help to reduce the deformity's , the lower one is one of the four supplied with the bender,.

Bender is a 12 ton , Toolex Cheapy $195,From Gasweld gosford .
Dawn die 32nb $111 , Blackwoods Tuggerah.

Thanks Guys for some direction here , saved me time and money. :)

Now DAWN dies are the go but black pipe is 48.3 OD and the closest Dawn dyes are 50mm. What pipe are we talking about using with the Dawn dyes to prevent crushing.

The former size refers to the nominal ID of the pipe so you need the 40mm die.

Here’s some info on steel tube, page 8 deals specifically with bending using the Dawn formers.

i'm bending my sliders at the moment, heavy wall pipe, so no deforming or dents from the rollers done one bend with the cheap die, sweet, loved it,

did the next and the die was already stretched, so now i'm getting the dawn die abit quicker hahaha, was planning on using a dawn die to do the bullbar, ohh well.

so people to stop dents from the rollers, just use heavy wall.

That way you dent the die instead of the pipe :D
