You are forgetting about the CONSERVATION OF ENERGY. To split water into hydrogen and oxygen takes FAR MORE energy than you get back from burning it.adam.s wrote:

The process is old, google "electrolysis", it's just that they can't convert water into hydrogen/oxygen efficiently enough to make it worthwhile because it requires a significant amount of energy to begin with to make enough fuel to keep the car going.
At least that's what they were having problems with last time I read about it.
