there was a discussion of this on one of the other forums (4x4 australia or overlander, I don't remember), and from memory, the DTronic came out smelling sweeter. The impression I got was that the DTronic is more 'active' in that it monitors air/coolant temps and other engine parameters, and if things get too hot/strezzed, it winds the fuel delivery back to let it cool off - the tunit just increases fuel and boost under all conditions - obviously not that great.
Obviously you need to do some more homework - ask lots of questions and find out HOW it works and HOW it protects the engine in high stress situations.
for your lux I think there is also another alternative:
http://www.turboglide.com.au/turbochargers/rapid.htm
note that if you don't want to spend buckets of cash there are ways to get decent gains from efi diesels without plugging in a module - you can usually adjust the boost with an electronic or manual boost controller, and fuel delivery can be fiddled by altering the output of the MAF/MAP and/or the air temperature sensor.

Free air locker to the first 20 callers!
They take about 15 mins to half an hour to hardwire depending on the car and model. I don't think any dealer is going to fit one for you to just try and see if you like it though because you have to splice into the main wiring loom off the ecu.Cossie

Find somewhere thats sells them and get them to trial fit one for you (only takes a few mins normally) and test drive it!
Looked into this and I believe the Tunit was the best.
The Rapid looked very good but can not use on all the Aussie 3.0TD as the efi computer is from Italy or something and not compadable. The computers in the "grey Imports" AKA surf 3.0TD can use the Rapid as it has a different computer.
I'm not sure about the Japan delivered 1kz-te hilux but the Thailand delivered 1kz-te hilux is not compadable.
There is a model of Tunit that can be adjusted.

Maybe for the tunit one but I have personally fitted 2 Safari modules to customers cars so they can test it.
It takes from as little as 5 mins to hook them up and they use plug in connectors, not hardwiring.
The hardest thing about owning a jeep is telling your parents you're g a y!!
Even though the tunit is hard wired into the loom, the box itself is disconnected within seconds. This then reverts the vehicle back to standard trim straight away. The tunit is also adjustable. So if you decide to fit a better exhaust system, want more boost or fit an intercooler, there is still scope to adjust fuel for these mods.
This makes it much more flexible for future enhancements.

I have done a lot of research on the tunit and Dtronic plug in modules and have found that they are both similar in their operatting peramiters.
They are both plug in units and neither of them are hard wired although the Tunit does run a single wire to the fuel pump on some models such as the ZD30 Patrol. The Tunit does adjust the fuel timing just like the Dtronic and neither of the units should harm your engine if installed properly.
I have just ordered a Tunit to suit my 2004 ZD30 Patrol which runs 35x12.5 MTR's and a four inch suspension lift using King SP4's and OME shocks. I researched both units web sites at www.Tunit.com and www.Dtronic.com and spoke with some of the retail outlets listed on the Tunit site that also sold the Dtronic. I was informed by all of these retailers that they prefered the Tunit because of its adjustability to suit individual vehicle setups and it can be adjusted for more power if required.
I will keep you up to date with my Tunits performace.

Hi
Received the Tunit v-vp today and I was very suprised to see that it was not what AWD Tech had described as a true plug and play device with matching plugs (even originals). It has infact got its own wiring loom which is hard wired and can be disconected from the tunit module. It is hardwired using two wires conected to the original plug on the ECU and one earth to the body and a further two wires going to the fuel pump, one being an earth the other being for pump signal.
Well it took me more than the quoted 60 min to install but maybe I am a slow learner. " it realy wasn't thad hard".
PERFORMANCE: Firstly I noticed the engine is more responsive from idle and it will bag the 35s around corners on the tarmac. On the dirt it has no trouble spinning in first and second gears through to the rev limiter. Torque is probably the most noticable improvement particularly when low speed cornering, I would generaly have to change down to second gear but It now does it in third gear with ease. Roll ons from 50-80kmh appear to have improved.
Offroad H4 has a noticable improvement and L4 is very noticable, particularly in soft sand.
I was probably expecting a more noticable difference on my first drive but a 15-35% improvement over most fwd vehicles is probably something that is best demonstrated on a dyno, and real world testing is something you as the owner and regular driver of a vehicle should test under your own driving conditions.
I will do further tests and adjustments and drive my favorite roads and tracks around the Hill and get back to U with my final thoughts.

I am completly satisfied with the Tunit. The patrol is a better vehicle to drive in every way and the power increase is fantastic. It actually blows the doors off my TB 42 petrol GQ coil cab, and its offroad performance is mad. It has no trouble climbing hills that it had previously struggled on and it has gained about 20kmh over a 400m standing start.
I highly recomend this product and I hope this makes your discission a little easier.
