GU 4.2 Manual to Auto conversion

Post by bogged »

I know there was somethin' in the archives about this, but phukt if I can find it.

Anyone run the conversion on a GU 4.2 from Manual to Auto..

What parts are required for this?
Box
pedal set
console
shifter
alternator with vaccum?
different brake booster etc?

Have been offered a real good plastic 4wd at the right price, but bollox to the manual.

I know Pete Christie did it in the GQ, just wondering the diff in the GU...

thanks
me.

Shouldnt need alt with VAC as they use a gear driven vac pump under injecter pump.
Why change the brake booster I would have thought they would have been the same. Its just that the auto one has a beigger pedal to push. And the hole for the clutch will just have a bung in it.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

it would be the same sticking a box in 1 or a motor in the other wouldnt it? price of GQs is dropping like a brides nighty, and time for something plastic.

have spoken with Mick and Peter Christie, if the auto is from another diesel, its a straight box swap, if its petrol its fucking around.

interested to find more out about the 4.8 GU Tiptronic auto, that apparently is a real step up...

Thoughts?
