Would it be feasable to swap your metre or so long torsion bar for another bit of spring steel
ie get like a milo-tin size bit of metal that has the same spring properties and somehow mount that to the car,
This would make the IFS lift kits (that have been discussed many times before) a lot more desireable

I know that there would be a lot R&D necessary to find the right bit of metal
just trying to get some opinions about the ideal

Actually, I believe the Gen 3 coil overs can be retrofitted to a Gen 2 so you can get rid of the torsion bars.
I was going to do this (actually got a set of coilovers) but decided on the SAS instead.
I gave Blair (Noisey) the coilovers before he moved to Sydney so we'll see if he goes ahead with it.
You wouldn't really get anymore wheel travel as such but you would have a wider range of spring rates available. The main advantage would be getting rid of the torsion bars for extra ground clearance and obtaining a much better ride out of the front end and possibly increased on road handling.
You would need a 2" body lift though and some inner guard modding to fit a longer top mount but it is definitely possible.
Then you could make the second crossmember a bolt in unit (rather than welded to the chassis) so removing t/cases to fit 2.85 gears will be much easier

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Yep, thanks to frank again I have the parts to destroy more of my car. Think I might put in a little research on the Gen 3 coilovers and then try to adapt them to the gen 2 (all I would be looking for would be a better ride as travel is not going to improve). It would also give me a consistent ride height and spring rate in the front end.
Have recently purchased a copy of the CAPS program so hopefully when I get my own computer up and running I can spend a bit of time checking through the "figures" to see how much work will be involved and whether or not it will be worth the time and money.
