Hi all, Third place went to Chris Hummer in a Rangie " Team Simex" I think you will find that Simex tyres were used on the first 3 place vehicles.
Congratulations to all competitors.
Now all you lot have to do is fix everything you broke to be ready for Round 2 at Booral at the end of June.

Here are the results. Just got home now after leaving Broken Hill at 5pm yesterday and driving straight through. So will talk more about it later.
ATM all I can say is that we have never broken so much shiat at one event and at the Out Back Challange time and distance are your worst enemy. We really only competed for half the competition so that part was dissapointing but the event on a whole for me was still an amazing experience. The videos of the previous events do it absolutely no justice at all to what the competitors must face on an event like this. It really did surprise me.

Im really keen to do it again but a machine like my mogrover would not come close to doing well at this event even if 42s and portal axles were allowed.
And the bit about the winching I think that Mike Smith said (in his acceptance speach) that they only winched three times which I would guess was on cliff hanger (the one where they pull down the dirt wall and winch over), mud max (I dont think anybody drove the massive bog hole) and the rock winch wall (an almost vertical wall thats over 2m tall with a relatively sharp top edge that the chassis were skull draged over).
This event is all about driving fast and keeping everything together. Its really amazing just how fast they go.
Congrats SAM for giving it a go sounds like an awsum event I just spoke to Our customer that entered and the event blew him away at just how quick some of them drove.
Good at fixing tyres would be the understatement of the year, over 20 flats in 5 days is rediculous and a BIG pain in the FUKIN ARSE !!!!!!!! It certainly eats into you sleaping time which is minimal at best, but beside that we finished the week off wothout any mechanical problems which shows that the vehicle prep put in before the comp was done right. We had a great time over the course of the week and while we didn't finish high in the list we discovered finishing is an achievement on its own when it comes to the OBC. Will get some photos developed tomorow and will post them later in the week.

Well done Drafty. Congrats on finishing mate. And thanks for all the updates early in the event (around Prologue time) via Mrs. Drafty too. I heard you were in the same group as Tony Ryan and Al Tierney? I spoke to Al the night you guys camped at Nine Mile. He said they were going okay, but I heard they blew the motor on Friday, is that right??

They suspect a cracked block. It is a real shame as they were having a prety good run, and making some realy good times. They are two top blokes, the whole group was on a downer when we heard about the problem, we were hoping it may have only been a blown head gasket. It just goes to show you, it is a fukin loooong week.

Yeah, I've known Al for about 6 or 7 years and I've known Tony for probably 3. Both good blokes, and very experienced competitors. It's a real shame, I helped these guys in their fundraising efforts to get them down to the O.C, I just hope they've got some of that money left over. Have you heard how they were planning on getting it home? I would think the best option would be to put it on a car carrier, and then fly home.
Tony Ryan came home last night on the back of Tony Dodds' trailer. Doddsy must have had Normie drive his ute home?!?! Or drove it himself and Normie drove the F-truck. But yeah they are all home and fine. Sad to hear Normie spent a day and a half in hospital, but apparently he is okay now!! which is good to know.
So, what happened to Norm?
I heard Andrew Gerding had to go to hospital as well. Something about trying to climb up a shaley rock face with no shoes on. Carved his foot open. I'll have to have a word that boy. He should know better.
