Endless Air/Sanden 508 on 1HZ
This question has been asked in the past, as my search revealed. I am posting it again with the hope of drawing the attention of any new members who may be able to help.....
Does anyone on the forum have an Endless Air/Sanden 508 compressor mounted on their 1HZ in addition to the original air con compressor? I have a HZJ 75, and believe I need to retrofit an HJ75 air cleaner housing base (pick up straight into the guard/snorkel) to give me enough room to move the original compressor down and to the right and mount the sanden between it and the block, up high. What I am really after is someone who has the genuine endless air bracket set up as I need mine to fit in the standard vehicle.
Someone must know someone who has one.......

Dane saw it done on the Spud truck, the original air cond comp was moved down enough to fit a Sanden above it and just clear the bonnet then a longer belt was used that went around both compressors using the original tensioner. I dont remenber it being looking to complicated!

Thanks very much AlbyOne, that is exactly what I was after. I had the placement of the compressors under control but the tensioning methods I had in mind made things very difficult. I was trying to do it with no tension pulley and making both compressors adjustable for tension. I agree that it is fairly straight forward to replicate what you have there, but doing the lot from scratch is a bit heavy - and I love that shit. Am I correct in assuming that you are not using the OEM air con mounting bracket, as the factory compressor is lower, to the right and forward of the original position? What is the last photo looking at? It is a bit hard to see but I will probably get it with an explanation.
It is very satisfying to put out a call for assistance and recieve such a positive responce. Thanks for your time and detailed photos mate, much appreciated.

To do the mod on an engine on the stand would be easy enough but in that engine bay it is a bit of a squeeze, as can be seen from Alby's pics. Ask Thommo, he has had many a head scratch over it and given it away as too hard. I will have to do two sets of brackets and sell one to him! Should be a lot easier now I don't have to re-invent the wheel.

No problems Dane. The factory compressor is in the same place. The 508 mounts directly over the original. The following photos show how high it sits relative to other things you will recognise.
The last photo is showing where the bracket mounts to the head via two bolts. If you rotate the photo 90 degrees clockwise that should make more sense to you. The blurry thing in the bottom LH corner [before the rotation] is one of the wings on the 508.

There is a God! I popped the bonnet on the HZJ 105 last night and looked at the sanden 508 sitting on the bench, scratched my head and thought "I wonder if anyone has fitted one of these to a 1HZ, might have to post it somewhere and ask"
AlbyOne, this is exactley where I thought I could fit it! Just trying to figure out your belts? Did you move the factory air con forward to get the belt to line up? Is the sanden is driven from the orignal location?

As for the line coming out of the top of the compressor I use more air than your average Joe who inflates tires back to road pressures after a run, therefore reliability and longevity of the air supply is more critical. Grease is an ok lubricant for intermittent use however these compressors were not designed to run on grease in the first place. I run an auto drain coalescing filter in line with the normal filter and run a small amount of compressor oil in the system for lubrication [the filter drain is plumbed back into the compressor as per earlier photos]. When you need to freshen up the oil, all I do is take off the bowl, tip out the old stuff and replace it with new….

More great info Alby. Just to clarify, the original factory compressor is in the same general location but does it use a custom mount or a modified factory mount? As it is moved forward one pulley groove and (I assume) down, it must not use the standard cast factory mounting bracket.
Your coalescing filter is the first in line after the compressor and only removes the oil. The second bowl we see is the water trap which then removes the water and has the manual drain valve, correct?

When I get mine sorted out, I am planning on building some jigs and doing some production runs on this setup as a kit. It won't be for months, but I will post info on this site when available. Don't hold your breath.
At the very least I will post a set of working drawings.

Finally got around to making a prototype of the bracket. I have jigged it up and will finish the first fabrication tomorrow.
I am doing a couple for mates and was wondering if any members would be interested in purchasing brackets. 75 series at this stage with 80 series to come. What are people interested in paying for the bracket and all bolts to suit? You supply your own compressor, belts and plumb it up how you see fit.
My time is valuable to me but I am interested in making them if it is worth my while. I don't need another hobby . I believe an Endless Air kit (including new and modified Sanden 508) is around $800
