hey all just wondering if a cargo barrier from say a 1989 patrol
will it fit into a mq/mk patrol cause im after one and does it go
from behind the drivers seat or the back seat and also does swb to lwb matter cause mines swb

Hey Ash. I have a 88 GQ SWB and I bought a Milford cargo barrer 2nd hand for 100 bucks. The bloke who owned it before me had a GQ wagon and had it mounted behind his back seats. I only wanted it to mount behind my front seats as I took out the back ones for more room. The Milford fitted behind the front seats perfectly and bolts up in 4 spots and hasn't moved a bit since being there.
my advice is when buying one, Take your truck there so you can see if it is going to mount up properly. Hope this helps-

I found a Falcon one on the net for free & I thought what the heck, its just going to cost me fuel to pick it up & if it doesnt fit I will give it to someone else.
Measured it up & its pretty close, matches the rake on the rear seat nicely. Will need to build some short legs for it ( mines a GQ & the floor dipps down) & some upper retaining brackets & all will be sweet.
The only problem which I havnt decided wether to fix or not is the top section tapers in for the falcon roof, as the patrol is fairly square there is a fair gap, it will be easy enough to weld in a section though, just dont know if I can be bothered.
I recon it will take me about a day to do it, I have all the extra steel I need so there is no real cost other than my time.
Those plans in the link above look good to. I think I am also going to rig up some child restraints in mine as well as the truck doesnt have any.

I've got one from www.4wdsystems.com.au in my Gu was about 250 i think, fits well no holes to drill bolts straight in.
I just bought one last week...being a non-milford no named sold through Melbourne Tow Bars. Cost me 350 installed on site.
While it doesn't have the child restraint access like a milford, it looks just as well made, and way easier to fit.
ARB and TJM both quoted me $600+ for a milford installed...bugger that!

Is it fitted up hard against the front seat? Or back a bit behind the 2nd row foot well?? Did you need to drill new holes to bolt it in?
On the ARB catagalogue there is a different model CB for the SWB..

I bought a new Milford one, complete with child restraint holes for $360 and fitted it myslef (bit fidly, but not considered difficult). I bought the Milford because I will be travelling with a child in the back.
The Milford one:-
- far superior mounting system (in terms of strength)
- carries the appropriate Aust. Standard
- rated to 60kg
When talking safety, particulalry that of a new born baby, $100 extra was a small price to pay.

All cargo barriers are supposed to comply to the Australian Standard, not a difficult test. Fom memory a 60kg weight dropped from 3m above onto the barrier with "simulated" mounting.
