Question for the Mitsu Gods.... Not 4x4 related.

Post by Grantw »

Is it possible to get a towbar, and tow with the current evo 8? I have a 500kg boat but I cant get a straight answer from anyone as to whether or not I can tow with my evo. At the moment I am using my mates 05 Sti and it tows just fine (with factory fitted towbar) Mitsu dont have a towbar and just say no without any reasoning.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Sorry its not 4x4 related but the auto forums just bitch about why I would want to tow with an evo.

Buy an Sti. :D

Try someone like Hayman Reece or Aranda?

For a 500kg trailer just about anybody with welding skills should be able to make something suitable. Have you crawled underneath to look for anything resembling suitable mounting points?

Good luck,

Top Gear did an episode where they went for the world record for towing a caravan. They just happened to use a highly modified EVO, and the van was gutted.

The outcome was a hole in one of the pistons, and lots of oil throughout the engine bay

Maybe a search on one of the UK sites will result in something, or visit a well regarded towbar shop that can make something for you.

That must be a small boat. :D Because I am laughing my ass off thinking of an STI pulling a huge 25 foot walk around fishing boat. :finger:

Anything can be made, but I was more concerned with the legalities. I have nothing in my owners manual about towing capacitys and there is a picture of a car towing a trailer with a line through it...

Buggered if I know why??? Maybe I am getting too technical in my old age.

Being slightly different floor pan to the aus delivered 4 door lancer you will probably find there is not enough structure in the back of the car to tow

Remember it was designed to go fast not tow boats! ;)

the 4wd layout might hinder fixing points etc as well

lots of reasons! I have a 1990 mx5 and i have a tow bar on it only rated for 400 kg's but

only want to tow a skiff with it !
