Weekdays - Prado GXL D4D with some stuff
Weekends - Mav shorty with lots of stuff
Weekends - Mav shorty with lots of stuff
this is all true but the servce that you get at the start makes all the differents to me, shows that they care about their sales and keeping the person that buys happy.
think if everyone was writing bad stuff on this post now would you go out and buy the winch of them.
besides not all of us in 4wd land can buy top priced gear, where not all doctors lawyers ect were your run of the mill good old australian beer drinking bloke with familys and a hobby to support.
if its cheap and works some times its the only way we can go.

Never heard of ACME as a legit business name, I suspect most people would take the Coyote's advertising as a bit negative to their product to use such a brand name.

I was in tjm today talking to the guys for a good hour about winches and we looked up the site and they had a good look they said the same thing they look like T-Max, Ox, Reel Ezy, Brawn winches with a different sticker.Sixty's Guy wrote:I bought one of Ebay but haven't installed it yet. Probably won't do for a couple of months yet. As far as I can tell it is the same as T-Max, Ox, Reel Ezy, Brawn (withou the waterproofing) etc.
I looked at the Tabor, but was scared off by their stats for it. Can't seemed to find it on their website ATM, but the current draw didn't read good.
We pulled out one of the ox winches and what do you know it was the same so just maybe this is the no name brand that they all put a sticker on and sell as their own

Just in regards to customer service and the likes. I live in a smallish town (7000 odd ppl), and work at an electrical retail shop. Since there's only two repair people in town, we have a very close relationship to these people - for obvious reasons. At our shop, we treat our customers like royalty, and no request is undealt with, and no question unanswered. They always leave happy, and confident in the product they have purchased of us. However. When it comes time for servicing, or servicing under warranty, it is left to the repair guy who likes to do things "as he wants to", or puts jobs in the order of who he likes/dislikes.
eg. There is a 700 litre Westinghouse side-by-side fridge that has been sitting in the repair shop, as a new replacement for a customer - for 4 MONTHS!!! Because he can't be stuffed delivering it.
The moral: Just cause the sales people are nice and make promises (as they do), you will NOT be dealing with that person when your product needs fixing, or if you have any problems.

i bought a warn hs9000 for $800. it had been unspooled about 10metres once, the rest of the cable was still factory wound and the fairlead didn't have a mark on it. i was the first winch i looked at on the first week i started looking. they are everywhere. worst case you may need a solonoid or something small. look at s/h before you go for acme. it might be a fine product or it might injest water when it rains, cease up and die when you need it most. $800 is a lot of money to throw at a new but untested product. if you are worried about s/h stuff try to find the hs9000 or the low mount 9000 with the big motor meaning they are only a few years old. also look at forsale here. my experiance of buying and selling on here are all good. the risk of buying a shite s/h winch is far less that having a acme fail with no parts available, etc.

The thing about these Chinese winches, or any winch, it what is to say their 12000lb winch is 12000lb? Where do these numbers come from?
An example is the winch strap test that 4WD monthly do - the actual breaking load varies hugely - and thats on NATA testing rigs.
Be interesting if a mag did the same test for winches, but they wouldne want to upset their advertisers so it wont happen.

I guess everyone who bought a cheap chinese effort is still stuck out in the bush somewhere digging frantically because their winch packed in the first time it was used!
regarding the ratings, I reckon they just get a bloke to try and pull against the cable whilst it spools in and he guesses at about 12000lb so thats what they put on the box!
Those 12000lb GEW efforts are about the same size as a 9000lb warn!
