gas conversion places in melb ?
gas conversion places in melb ?
howdy all,
can anyone suggest somewhere decent to do a gas conversion ?
either in the doncaster area, or bundoora/heidleburg.
I've got a swb gq, 1991, 4.2L. I want somebody that knows 4bies and wont
put the tank in a stupid spot for offroading etc.. also curious as to what others with shorties have done, like what size tanks where etc ? at this stage I'm thinking It'll be dual fuel tuned towards gas.

Have a look at http://www.nowwhereroute.com/alpga/Loca ... hpage.aspx and look for their location guide. This lists all fitters/andor/filling stations in your area......unless you're looking for personal recommendations from someone. I'd get in fast wherever you can ATM, as fuel prices are seeing that these guys are ALL busy for a while.

dont go to a place called auto valante
or how ever you spell it..
worst place i have even been too. had to fully remove the gas and install a new one..
if you talk to all the taxi drivers the only gas kit worth getting is a impco gas system, doesnt kill your air intake like all other kits do..
i have run a impco on my ef fairmont for around 3 yrs now,, no problems what so ever, you pay an extra 400 for them but please please please dont buy anything else..
they all suck my dad has had gas on 3 cars now, and when i got my on impco gas system my ef my old man couldnt believe how good it was, so he changed his also..
just thought i would throw my few cents in..
and the reason why i threw this in is becasue his near your place too, trust me "dont go to a place called auto valante"..
cheers

why not buy a kit from a wrecker and then get one of those places to install for you with new wiring and gas lines.....
Every wrecker this side of the black stump has a glut of lpg stuff just waiting to be moved on......
I did my XF this way and the kit only cost $200 with 8 years left on the tank...
Food for thought....

For my old man's car we had a lot of messing around with different places until we found a guy in Campbellfield who did an excellent job, using second hand parts my old man supplied.
I don't have the number handy but let me know if Campbellfield is close enough for you and I'll dig it up.
Only used him once, so he could still turn out to be crap of course.

no idea if you can get them second hand,, dont see why not there are a heap of taxi's at wreckers..
if your looking a buying brand new i think they are around 1800-2200 fitted..
depends on where you want to go.
i reckon a wrecker would be well worth a shot, but just make sure someone will want to fit it and get it working, etc..

they arent anywhere near you, but worth the drive.. (theres a brothel 2 doors down to waste time at while your cars being fixed)
auto gas connections in carrum downs are good, call them and have a word to em.
They also have a 4wd dyno to set it up properly too..
You only have 2 places for tanks. under the rear where std tank is, or in the back - and I think in the back is illegal now - so that narrows it for you.

I remember something about issues on legalities of selling used LPG kits, but it was a long time ago.. with lots of back yard fitments happening and accidents they had put the kybosh on it, but could be wrong.mikmav wrote:Called a few wreckers yesterday and they didn't have any gas kits.
I guess the petrol price hike has cleaned them out.
K, I haven't done the conversion yet, but have heard ugly stories of
gas TB42's cracking heads way too often, how true is this ? mine's also got
extractors if that makes any difference.. I find it hard to belieive that its all bad news with so many patrols out there on gas.

I personally think it's a crock. There are a lot of TB42s out there on gas. There are a few TB42s that crack heads.mikmav wrote:K, I haven't done the conversion yet, but have heard ugly stories of

If a TB42 on petrol cracks a head, people say it's because of maintenance, cooling problems etc
If a TB42 on gas cracks a head, it's suddenly because of the gas. But imho it's probably just for the same reasons that a head will crack on petrol.
Just my take on it.
