After reading several threads about failed rear rover ring & pinion (on MANY forums...), I have decided to swap in a disc-braked Salisbury with my matching front 4.7 ratio. Kindly bear with me as I think this through, and PLEASE shed as much light as possible:
1. The rear axle has been relocated 2cm to the rear with modified rear lower links, and the truck sits on 2" OME lift (with a 2" Body lift). WILL THIS ALLOW THE BIG SALISBURY TO FIT THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT AND CLEAR THE REAR FUEL TANK?
2. The Rover R&P is ~8" in diameter, and even with the super duper metal and 600US$ 4.75s, you can still break them...WHAT IS THE R&P DIAMETER OF THE SALISBURY R&P?
3. WILL THE STOCK SALISBURY 4.7 RATIO HOLD TO <37" TIRES?
4. I need discs alround, therefore, IF I FIND A DRUM VERSION, CAN I CHANGE THE FINAL HUB ASSEMBLY WITH THE NEWER DISC VERSION?
That is all I have for the moment...I wish I had another choice for keeping my Rover axle for the greater clearence, but we do not have Toyota parts here, and Land Rover parts are all over the place and cost piss. This IS the only way...Please advise.

not very helpful, but a start
just put toy gears in and be done, either toy thirds or on your MD hemi. better clearance and will survive 37's fine, and cheaper.

I have put a salsbury into the rear of my disco. A couple of things were required.
1) adaptor plates for the disc brakes and discovery outers to fit on
2) modified fuel tank in my case due to the diff hitting the tank
( note I have extend trailing arms so this was an issue)
I run a maxi drive in the rear and maxidrive made the adaptor plates plus the axles. For my particular model the axles were 20mm longer than the normal ones supplied due to the early model disco outers.
I run a modified 4.6lt and drive like a lunatic currently with 35" MTRS. I have had simex etc and never had a problem with the diff.
The old rover diff even with 4.11s used to break the cw& p all the time.
I got sick of it and went straight to salsbury. The only issue now is ground clearance under the diff so Im going to 36" centerpedes Hopefully

You three were on the top of my head when it came to answering this thread, and you guys ulled through beautifully!
Anyways, I know the topic was on pirates, but in the US, the salisbury is not a cost effective choice. In Aust., it is more of a smart one, other than the best which is the Toy centers. Again, I insist on saying that unfortunately, I cannot go with Toys since they are NOT available here, and a Salisbury is easier to get. Plus keeping everything LR is kinda sweet (yet foolish ).

The adaptors came from Maxidrive in Queensland. I had a local supplier here source them for me. As I said my disco is an early model so Im not sure that they are all the same ( i originally had 10 spline axles).
My driveshaft was modified at the same time. However they put a Hilux cardin joint in I think mine came back to standard length with 5" suspension lift. It was actually to short with the old rover diff.
I have slightly longer trailing arms as well but havent done anything with the top. The rear of the salsbury only just nicked the tank so there may be a bit of trial and error unless someone else is wiser.
I would contact maxidrive and see if you can get the plates. They allow for the brake caliper to go back in original position etc so it really was a straight bolt up up job.
