GU Transfer Reducton Gears

Wanting to get a set of reduction gears for the GU but was wondering who makes the better gears quality wise, Marks or Rockhopper or are they much the same. Is there anyone esle.

Has anyone had problems with them.

Does the whole g/box need removing or can the t/case be removed by itself. I believe the internal of the case needs some modifying to fit them.

Who can supply them at the right price.

not really answering your question but i was reading in the latest 4wd monthly about a dual transfer case setup for the gu's basically halves the reduction again... gives you 2 low range selections

Well Marks4wd offer a 3yr warranty ?? or it may be x amount of km's.

Either way the rockhoppers you get from Big Balls or other places don't offer any kind of warranty. Something about differing treatment/tyre size/fittment which is fair enough....

But I would buy the one with the warranty.

Dual transfers. You need another case, custom crossmember, shortened driveshaft (Maybe Double Cardinal Joint for shaft if it is too short - this means rotating your rear housing as well ie; shockmounts coil perches), Cut through floor and also you have to buy the adaptor for a few $$$.

Dual seems to better suited to the comp and crawling guys, just after a improvement in low. First low at the moment is to high and runs away on the steeper hills which can be a bit nasty at times.

Well I have some info:

Rockhoppers are made in japan by the same mob that makes nissan/toyota OEM gears.

Marks sources his from Australia (only 4 gear cutters with that sort of equipment over here in OZ that I know of)

Both sets are hard to break. R&D on rockhoppers had a 100 Rw/Kw truck trying to break them for 2 years unsuccessfully (GU 4.2 TD).

I belive they are within earshot of each other in the the way of longetivity and strength. Ones cut and made here (Marks) the rockhopper overseas.

If you look in the members section you'll see mine is booked in for the 25/08. Won't post up who's doing it (yet lets see what job they do) for me but lets just say 1.4K fitted

My 2 Bobs worth is get the cheapest set you can find. Around $1600 fitted sounds about right.

Rockhoppers have a 12 month warranty on parts.

Mate of mine runs the Marks gears with 36" Simexs and are absolutely brilliant. I'll be buying them soon.

i have rockhoppers in my GQ wagon, 4.2D, with 35's, had them for about a year now, and they are going strong, would highly recomend them, to the point of which, im getting another set installed into my GQ shorty, 4.2Petrol on the 30th of aug,

Sounds like they are about the same quality it all comes down to price.
