Timing belt on the 80

Post by crusher »

Hi, The warning light for the timing belt has come on, on my 80. Replaceing it dosent seem to be any drama but I'd like to know if the warning light is activated by the amount of stretch in the belt, working off the tensioner, or if its somehow working off the odometer cause it came on pretty much as she kicked over to 400,000 km. Anyone know the answer?
Thanks, Andy :?

the timing belt light works off the odometer mate if u look close at your dash u will see a little rubber grommet in there pull that out and stick a thin screwdriver in there with the ignition on and that will get rid of it.

or if you have a 5L hilux they are operated on either.

There is a switch on the tensioner & once it passes a certain point (meaning the belt has stretched enough) the light will come on regardless of how many kms you have done.
