12HT Radiator

Post by vSAHARAx »

I was priced $400 for a brand new radiator for my 89 Sahara (12HT). ( Altho I think that was just for a new Core)

Does anyone know if this is around the going rate or if it is expensive, (i thought it was pretty bloody resonable) but just for interest sake would like to know what others have been charged (if dont mind me asking), just so i can compare.

Cheers Troy.

That was just for the core? there wouldnt be all that much difference between the 2H and 12HT radiators would there? My header tank is leaking, just needs to be re-soldered but i figured the car is comming up 16yrs old, if its gonna cost me $100-$150 to get it re-soldered may as well pay a little more for the whole box and dice, cant see the sense in paying $150 to get the header tank re-soldered and then later on having to pay $400 to get the core done.

toyota want about $1250 for a new radiator

i paid $450 for a new narra radiator with a 5 year warranty (conditions apply)

it isnt as good as the factory one.

you will probably find yours doesnt need to be recored as the core generally lasts alot longer than the solder on the tanks. (for the hj60/61 radiators)

you should be able to get both tanks desoldered core cleaned, tanks resoldered and painted for about $200-$250

if the core is still good this is definantly a better option as the factory radiator is superior IMO.

I dont believe there is any difference between a hj60 and hj60 radiator.

I paid 360 when mine went. (that was mates rates though). I was told that it's common for the 60 series to wreck radiators, something to do with the body twisting and warping the radiator. in my case, it was leaking around the gutter near the top of the rad.

I was recommended a new radiator, as fixing old ones is pot luck when it comes to reliability. I bought it, i've seen my old man have troubles with welding up radiators in a hiace

so when you say for example u paid $360 for yours, is that a whole new radiator or just a new core and what ever else, or do they take the old radiator out and put a whole new one in? because i asked the fella how much a new radiator was and he said $400, at first i thought that was bloody cheap for a whole new radiator, then i spoke to dad, he was also suprised, he suggested maybe the fella meant just for a new core.

Its all to confusing lol :P

Oh, Really, thats excellent! I said to the bloke when he told me $400 "oh thats cheap, they arnt hard to install" and his exact words were "peice of p!$$, not hard at all" so im gathering he is talking about the whole thing.

He told me that his old man just wrecked a 1986 cruiser, he sold the motor to sum1 in America which he claims was a 4.2L TDi, i didnt think they had a 4.2L Turbo donk in the 60's, maybe he was mistaken because he was taken back when i said mine was a 4L Turbo Diesel (12HT). He said he didnt know that toyota had any 4L diesel motors.
Back to the point he said he had a radiator there that he re-conditioned for his dad around 12months ago and he said i could have it for around $150 but i think ide rather a brand new one.
