60 engine swap, petrol to diesel

A mate is looking at getting rid of the petrol in his 60. V8 diesel is the way I'd go but its out of the question, so how would a 1hz go, anyone tried it?

There has been talk of this before, but I have no idea who or where these topics are now.

Try the "Toyota Bible" at the top of this forum... you might find something in there under the "Engine" section.

Also some other good info in there on 60's.

theres a dude that did it in america, its on the pir8 forum.

some things to note is that the fuel and exhaust are on the opposite side of the engine compared to the 2H

otherwise there isnt any real problem. you will have to try and get a bellhousing to fit. I think they come from a 75 or 79 series if you plan on using your current gearbox.

1HZ is pretty much a mechanical engine, only things you need to worry about electrically is the glow system, EDIC system, and sensors.

The glow system could probably be driven by the 2H glow system, or by your own wiring (10 second timer?).

I have no idea what the EDIC system, on a 1HZ is like or if they even have one. I assume they do so you will need to get it with the motor. There will be some electronic parts required to get this working.

Sensors from a 2H or 2F should screw straight into the 1hz block perhaps with some cutting/extending wires which will make use of all your current guages etc.

It should be a good swap. 1HZ's are pretty cheap and give out HZ has about 100kw which is similar to the 12HT although the 12HT probably comes on power sooner. You can then turbo it and get some good power going. Best part is all your parts are still toyota!

The engine swap seems easy enough. Exhaust shouldnt be to much of a drama as he wants to whack a turbo on it anyway. Is there any diference in the petrol to diesel diff ratio's? Could we get away with the petrol ratios with a 1hz?

I know the HJ60's came out with 4.11 diff ratios as standard... not too sure what the FJ60's were though, but that gives you something to check against.

id suggest if anything the petrol ratio's will be slightly taller? And since the 1hz revs harder than a 2H the petrol ratio's will probably be fine.

If you decide to run larger tyres (35+) you might consider changing ratio's anyway.
