GQ questions

Post by slacker »

Just a couple of quick questions for the experts.

i have a 88 SWB GQ with non LSd diff and drum brakes, wondering if the LSD's centres will fit in the housing i have. The compliance plate says it has HG41 diff.

The compliance plate says the model is a KY60 is that the normal model name.

also how many other people are as unfortunate as me to have a drum brake, non LSD no sway bar, vinyl interior, povo pack GQ with factory rust :D

No swaybars is good not bad :D

LSD is buyable but factory locker or ARB locker much better. At least factory LSD is cheap.

4.1's are a bonus... better than 3.9's and I wouldnt be complaining about hose out floor rather than carpet.

rear drums is a biatch though.....

On the upside if you do a factory locker replacement you'll have discs :D

Car is now 17 years old so rust comes to some.... at 17 years old you were a bit rough around the edges.

As long as you got it cheap no real reason to complain.

i've had it for a year now, i swapped a good car for it . Apart from the lack of creature comforts it's a good 4wd mechanically, doesnt burn a drop of oil or any whining, but it is getting some rust and has a major lack of traction off road even with 33 MTR's.

thanks for your reply beastmavster, has anyone got a CIG locker in the back of a GQ, if so how does it go (mind you my 4wd is a daily driver)

Having had a CIG rear recenetly in a previous 4by I'd say pay the $300ish for an LSD and if you want more offroad grip tighten it a bit more.

Drum Centres can only be swapped with Drum Centres. I have an old Drum brake housing w/ toight LSD hanging round the house.

Like you I gots a pov pack model but put a factory locker in the rear, like the dude mentioned above.

Is your car yellow as well ??

how sure are you to drum brake diff's being replaced with drum brake diffs????

A drum brake centre can be put into a disc brake housing but not the other way around. ;)

Easiest way would be to get a complete housing. Every thing will bolt up. Brake lines included.
Best would be to try and find a factory locker one.
