Hey guys. I was just wondering about the Calmini products for the sierra.
Those prices, would they be any different because im in aus not usa?
Would they post them over here?

I just got Calmini 6.5 gears in, they would have cost $1400 to my door. That was thru Kaos in Canberra. I figured i should have been able to import myself for <$1200. To me, the extra $$ is worth it, as id prefer to deal with Canberra, rather than California. Calmini are claiming to have a Life Time warranty. Also claim they have never had a broken gearset. Time will tell if these claims are true.

5" suspension lift can be done a number of ways. It seems that most of the NSW boys do this with SPOA (putting the springs over the axle instead of under)
Down here in Vic the most popular way is to use OME springs (50mm lift), extended shackles and a body lift
Both of these come out at around 5" in lift plus your tyres. The SPOA does raise the centre of gravity more than the SPUA + body lift.

cant you rego SPOA if its on hilux diffs, cos they are SPOA standard?
Im toying with the idea of my hilux springs SPOA and running the springs dead flat, rather than SPUA and relying on the arch of the leaves for lift... should be a more reliable setup as far as keeping the ride height the same. shouldnt be too hard to rego so long as i dont net more than 4.5" lift from the SPOA (running some short shackles should help).
only problem with rego'ing lux diffs is that they might be considered too wide.

ied double check your sources, i know people running around with hilux diffs under there zukes redestered and complied, but you have to comply it with the 16" split rims on

And you would lose your wheel travel as well (or some of it)
Flat springs and SPOA still leaves you with plenty of up travel.
If you use a thin metal or plastic ruler, hold it at both ends and create and arc press on the top of the curve and try to bend it.
Now do the same thing with the ruler straight, see how much easier it flexes when it is flat to start with.

Adjust your bump stops accordingly if you so wish. A flattish spring will bend what some would say the wrong way. i'd just call it flex.midnight wrote:Oh ok I understand now. so what happens if the spring goes arch up (if your bump stops are too short)?
I do understand that when a spring is forced the wrong way too many times that it will reduce its lifespan, but oh well, you want good flex
