Half Doors for Sierra
Half Doors for Sierra
Hi All,
I'd like to hear from people that have gone the chop with their sierra doors and turned them into half doors...
I've got some plans to cut mine down on the new soft top body.
Overkill - i see from your latest add in 4wd monthly that you've done something to your doors - perhaps you could elaborate?
thanks,
Greg

Greg as you know i have the half doors on mine. I used a set of doors that use the plastic fold down windows. I cut them down using a grinder and have oh so neatly capped them with self expanding foam and garden hose until I get around to doing it properly with steel c channel. the latch is controlled with a gentle prod of the latch inside the door once again i'll should get around to fixing that. However they do still use the anti pop open latches on the doors and have the inside skin .
PS the temporary nature was for cruiserchana 97 and i just need a little spare time to clean them up

I chopped my doors down and capped them with steel plate.
I started at the normal height and sloped down to a comfortable arm rest height and then sloped down to meet the rest of the car.
One thing you have to watch now is if you are planning to use it in comps they are starting to bring in a required door height.
But apart from that they work great for easy spotting while driving.
Regards
Jamie

That was the All terrain track at this years jamboree at dunedoo.
There are few good tracks but i have'nt been to for a while so it will be interesting to see if they are still open.
There are also quite a few good tracks up mount sugerloaf which about 1/2 hour from where i am.
When i finish rebuilding my zook i'll put on a trip up this way.

Sam,
Okay, so i gather it is using something like a dead bolt system from a house window as the locking mechanism? And the hinges are the stock ones from the car...
Dare i ask if it has seals? or could be sealed (we have lots of puddles in victoria :( )
And could i have a photo of the inside please?
thanks mate

Sam,
appologies for asking for more photos (passenger side, or fitted in a car perhaps?) - but i hate buying things site unseen...
okay - so the door comes up to where the "ridge" is on the normal door, and then raises to normal door height at the hinged end. cool.
but as far as being a door goes - it is purely a shell made from sheets of steel with a few support beams i gather?
thanks again,
Greg
