ECU Chip, unichip, autronic, motec, APEXi...

Post by South »

Gday peoples,

Has anyone chipped there pajero on this forum? Im looking for details in regards to the DOHC 3.5L but any other help would be good.

I have read the 3.5 runs pretty lean already, but the fuel usage on the highway doesnt really show that, so I am thinking about installing an APEXi SAFC II to give it a light tweak, any hp gained is good, but economy around town and highway is the main focus.

Does anyone have any dyno results or AF ratios that can show how rich or lean it is running on the dyno?

Will only do this if i can pick up the controller cheap cheap.

I might give them a buzz, the only think that doesnt impress me is the workshop, its a hole! and I'm always concious of if they dont take pride in their workplace, then they probably dont take pride in their work.

But yeh, I'll speak to them, im going to tune it myself, its a very basic unit... Just want to see if anyone had any experience with any type of chips and the outcome...

MegaSquirt EFI make and EFI computer KIT. You need to assemble it yourself
Great kit with alll the functionallity of anf aftermaket (Motec, Autronic etc) but at around au$400 a fraction of the price
Tuning is done by you with a laptop. Don't be scared it is actually a cinch if you follow the maunal.

Not the same as a rechip but it will provide greater flexability for around the same cost.
One thing though is screws you for rego legality but then again when has you computer ever been inspected ;-)

Got my mates Falcon V8 going with out too much bother the Triton is next

One more thing you can have two diffrent maps (fuel curves) one for Hway (econ) one for oroad (hp). Just flick a switch and the alternate maps loads.

Yep, already know about MegaSquirt, Im going to fit that to my fairmont at some point, but thats not a stocky, whereas the pajero is. The Apexi SAFC II can be picked up for under $300 and it connects to the ECU with 4 or so wires, its all programmed via a graphic display and a 3yr old could do it.

So its just a simple means of altering the MAF to better the economoy. Dont have to rewire half the car to install it, like the MegaSquirt does...
