Engine for Suzuki Sierra

I'm researching on which engine is suitable for a zook...

At the moment, I'm unsure on...

- 1.6L motor out of a Daihatsu Feroza (with EFI)
- Suzuki Vitara 1.6L with EFI
- Toyota 4AGZE out of a Corolla.

What other engines would you recommend?

err i don't think the dahutsu motor is a good candidate on account that it's probably harder to maintain a source parts for as opposed to the Toyo and Vit optons

You could always go Nissan SR20 and be the envy of most of us here, christopher did a really long posting on his friend joey's build up

i might be shot down with the flamer fror saying this but lmaybe a k10a from a Suzuki Wagon R, it just may fit into the same spot as the ol F10a (yours is a 1lt chassis right?)

it is a 1l DOHC efi and has 47kws (same as the bigger 1.3l) i'm sure with a bit of tinquering you could raise the torque and mate it to a 1l gearbox

the daihatsu engine is a good one but its no easier/ cheaper to source than a vit one and the conversion will be inherently more difficult :) No powerhouse either but maintenance is not a prob :? I'd go the vit over that anyday.

The 4age is a ripper but seriously custom and lots of $$$ if you're not doing it yourself. I remember getting quotes anywhere between 4 and 7k to fit a motor I was going to supply :shock: Can be seriously cheap if you can diy though.. do it if you can.

That f10a is a good engine too but I reckon I could have found a dodo before I found a reasonably priced reputable supplier for one of those :roll:

Consider jimny or import 1.3 efi motors ;)

a fella i know has a 4age and she honkie tonks...

The absolute simplest way to upgrade the 1.3 motor is to get a Gti short block and fit your 8V head to it. With absolutely no modifications, just bolt it in, you get quality crank and rods, plus higher compression pistons.
Add the header and a decent carb and you have an upgraded 1.3.
Of course if you want to spin your wheels at the lights, then you need to spend and modify.

although if you are wishing to sell a gti head im all ears?? hehe

Well i think his getting at simplicity..
if you run a gti bottom you got forged internals and high compression, bolt on the sierra 8v head tune the carby and timing and away you go. (ok so maybe you need to Set up a themal switch to trigger the thermal fan or bolt on the fan to the pump)
Plus all the mods you have on the 8v trickle over (Extractors, Cams, webers etc)


Now you want to run the top?
- Modify the tank forn internal or get extrnal pump, add pressur eregulators and new efi filter
-Get a right angle adaptor or massage the firewall
- custom splice and mod the loom add or the sensors
- Remap the Ecu or run aftermarket (optional but hey you should get it over and done right?)
-Redirect air plumbing etc
-custom extractors
-Tune the timing and camshafts
-the list goes on :roll:


So i you wanted to equate with your power power upgrade it's not a bad suggestion really.
A GTi bottom end probably could be picked up for the same price as a pair of high compression pistons, not to meantion you could quite happily push th rev limit from 6500 to 7500 as :twisted: thats the ECU cut out for aus delivered GTi's and most Swifter's have this bumped to 8600 or completely removed.. (ok time to find a hand me down vit carby from someone upgrading to webers)
I wonder how this would compare to a vitara carby swap in price verse power i'm willing to bet it's a close tie (but which way?) unless you planned to modify the 1.6 extensively (in which case you may be doing the ame amount of work as a complete gti swap only in diff areas:))


All in all that's my rant, most ppl glaze over my posts :lol:

What is the quality like on the standard 1.3? Would it handle more power from say, a turbo running low boost, with a decomp plate or just a thicker head gasket?
