Hello all! Newbie with question....
Hello all! Newbie with question....
Hi folks. Been lurking here a while. I'm from Scotland. i realise a lot of you guys are from Oz, and I'm trying my best to work out the GQ/GR model thing!
Right, just got me a GQ (Y60), that's the big huge one with the flat roof right? hehe
Anyway, my rear locker don't work. I've read the bible, and got *almost* what I needed to know - but it's more geared to changing it for a different type, I want to keep the factory one (cash). WHERE IS THE DIFF LOCK UNIT AND WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
I found one little black box behind the centre console with three wires, but they aren't the same colours as those in the bible.
Anyone help me out?
By the way, my "diff lock" switch has a light inside as well as one on the dash - neither light up, but I hear the No.1 solenoid clicking and the vacuum changes on No.1 too, but on No.2 not a dickie.
I'd like to get my locker working before i try anything too much fun - been stuck once already!
Cheers,
SC

the diff lock unit it self is mounted on the rear diff centre(r/h side i think), maybe try checking the wires that are hooked to it, being a vac locker not a pressure locker id be checking all hoses going to it
Gu Ute td42t, dzltech turbo, front mount and aus4wd manifold, 18 x 10 rims and 36 15.5 mickey t's for bling
Hard to diagnose from a distance but you have both an electrical circuit and vacuum/valve system that can fail before you even get to the locker itself - and I would imagine that these are more likely to have died than the locker.
So anyway, the diff lock itself is attached to the diff (well, it's really part of the diff) while the vacuum control unit is in the engine bay.
Also, as Bogged says, best to be patient because in a few hours more people will be around to offer advice.

This is not legal advice.
...
To test if the actuator on the rear off the housing is working...
Jack up the whole rear end of the car.. (Jock fronts of course ) ie; be safe...
Leave the handbrake off.
Trace where the rubber vacuum lines go from the actuator to the lines on the chassiss (you will see what I mean). Yank them off the chassiss end.
Suck on one of the hoses and get a mate to turn one of the wheels. One of these hoses, when vaccuum is applied, will cause the shifter fork to mesh with the spider gears??(not sure on names) causing the differential to lock.. So try both hoses with a fair old amount of sucking.
I know that seems a little odd...but no oil came out...
If you can't get the sucker to lock this way then your rear locker actuator is buggered...
Otherwise if you can it is further down the track in the engine bay where it is your solenoid... many pages written about that...

So Scaredy Cat I think you and I are the only two members on Nissan section from Sconny Botland. You have come to the right forum cos the guys are shit hot on Patrols (brownnose moment over). Can`t help with locker as mine has a slipper on rear. It`s an Aussie spec GQ. I take it you have UK model GQ Y60 badged as GR. Where are you in Scotland?
