33's on hilux... ok?

Post by @cer »

Hey guys,

Im looking at buying some larger tyres, 33's to be precise.

What I want to make sure is if these will be bad for my diffs or drive train or anything? which are all stock...

Will they make much difference to the performance of the acceleration or anything else? off-roading etc?

I cant find anything like this in the search, but i dont really know how to use it properly... so sorry if its been asked a million times...

Thanks guys...

Coolies,

Not at all,

Yes, acceleration will suffer, but offroad you will be able to scale obstacles with a bit more ease and have better diff clearance.

Regardless of what model lux you have, a 2" body lift is mandatory for 33's. Of course there are ways around having to lift the body but its the easiest and cheapest way.

Thanks guys...

On my old shitty 84 3Y powered :? x-tra cab lux I had 33's and a 2" spring lift. A hilux is gonna be slow no matter what, it does make it better of road and DOOOOO IIIIIIIIT :D

@cer,

My local 4X4 retail and maintenance shop has an IFS lux dualcab with BFG Muddies, 33 x 12.5 x 15. The truck looks a treat. He has them on the landcruiser offset mags. The ute is raised with a suspension kit.. I think he uses it as a sales tool apart from his off road exploits.

I was considering 33's on my truck after a 2" body lift and asked him his opinion. The response.. even with the greater offset of the landcruiser rims, the tyres rub on the tray when the rear suspension travels up and the front rubs on the sway bars. The performance is pretty marginal as he has not moded the diff ratios.

All over... not very happy with them.. in his words.. 33 is probably too big for it.

They are 12.5's though, awfully wide rubber when the standard is what... 10.5??

I am keen to hear which way you go.

Cheers

Rainsey

Go for 285/75/16

on 0 offset 16" rims.
(cruiser offset)
You will need flares if you don't have an SR5.

i got 33x12.5x15 claws on my IFS lux with 2'' body and small suspension lift. No cutting of guards, no scraping, no moving of diffs. The rim offset if your key.

even with 2" BL youll scrape on the back of the guards at full flex, its no big issue it just sounds bad and wears the paint off the guard.

mate, how big of sus lift u got,

cause my 33's still hit on the inner guard on full flex.

to @cer

do ya body lift(easy on a hilux).

then redrill ya spring perch moving ya diff forward, shouldn't have any trouble then.
