Front seats in GQ's, do they change across the years?

Post by Mowie »

I'm looking to replace the front bucket seats in my 88 GQ.

What I want to know is can I replace them with seats from later GQ's or am i restricted to the first couple of years, 88 through to :?:

I don't have the option to modifiy to suit so it has to be a 100% fit.

GQ Seats

Yep
All the Seats out of GQ's from 88 up to 96? are interchangeable with each model. The seats them selves may vary slightly but the frames are the same.

Partial Thread Hijack...

Lets say I grab some seats from a I don't know Skyline or something of that comfy manner.

How difficult is it to make random seats fit to the base ??

Any Pointers ??

Mine are shagged like this guys I would say soo...

i have those autotechnica seats in my GQ swb they only just fitted and rub against the B pillars, the seat can only be in a certain position-which fortunately is comfy for me or it jams the seat belt. Good excuse to get a harness though. I have suspension seat bases but have them locked down. I just drilled into the base plate 4 new holes for the seats.

Replaced my 89 LWB GQ front and middle rear seats for some late model ones in excellent condition (97 I think).
No problems with the fronts at all.
Had two problems fitting the middle rears.
1. New and old seat belt buckles are different and do not work together.
Changed the buckles on the seats with the ones from my original seats.
2. The U shaped bar on the floor under the rear seat for the lock down mechanism is a smaller diameter. Had to go back to the wreckers and get the late model locking bar. 89 bar is way too big for the lock mechanism.

fitted honda prelude seats to my 89 GQ

seats are great with huge wings that hug you in

my GQ runners on the passenger seat were rooted so i had to make up some new brkts to fit on the honda runners. this was a lot of rooting around and took me most of a day.

the driver side however was simply cutting the runners off the honda and drilling some plates and bolting them up to the GQ runners. took about an hour and is sweet.
