Post by matthewK »

now im really looking into adding gas on the nissan because of prices on fuel , iwant to keep my petrol and make it duel fuel i have some thought on how much the petrol tank is cut down like what size tank they leave me with? what size gas tank would they put on ?
over all what sort of ks can i expect out of each tank
im running a 4.2 carbie partol,

my next question is how dangerouse is it having the gas tank where the fuel tank was? i still like to go out a bit when i can guess im thinking on saftey when the tank is smashed around

thanks guys

Get about 350 km out of my GQ TI LWB. Have 31' MT tyres on. As for petrol coffin belly tank only holds 55L so at 22l/100 Km do the maths. Gas tank in rear is not a prob and dosn't seem to mind getting a knock from a nasty exit every now and then.

the petrol tank in mine is a long rectangular tank sits under rh side in middle. Only holds 55L so im told, although have never run it out onlt filled it when gauge shows empty and got 52 L in it.
As for LPG yeah 350 km isn't much but cost of filling tank was $33 so quiet cheep motoring. Am heading from melbourne to Fraser Island in a weeks time towing off road trailer so will have some trip fuel figures when I return.

I am running on LPG Dual Fuel atm (converting over to Straight gas very soon with EFI throttle body)

I am doing 450-500K's of City driving on LPG and about 700-800K's of Freeway driving with 100L tank

I will mention i do have Extractors, 2.5" Exhaust, Points removed adn Fireball Crain Cams ignition installed, however i do run 33's on a regular basis and 35's offroad now

hoping for more power out of the LPG system using the straight system

I have a carby 4.2 dual fuel.It has a 110litre (88 usable) tank and get 300 k`s around town to about 70 litres. On a trip that a did about a month ago(newy to barrington tops and back via Bucketts way and Scone) got 400 k`s to about 70 litres.

Mine hangs down abit at the back and yes it has been bashed a fair bit.I have had to take (yesterday) the petrol tank out cause when i go in the bush the tailshaft and unijoint bash the petrol tank around.

Hope this helps.

What have you done to it to get that many k's from LPG???????? My last shorty 4.2 most i got ever was 497k's from 107 litres, that was accross the nullabour, but was generally getting 350 to 400 from 100litres. That had extractors, 2.25 exhaust and pirahna electronic, and was tuned well. currently i get about 350k's from 93 litres (if i'm lucky) with electronic ignition.

But, I just got 4lt/100km towing the buggy on a car trailer through the snowy mountains  Weird, but Im not complaining ;)

Paid 60c/ltr for LPG today :x

Where was that Shorty? Filled my LWB in Melbourne today, had 10L remaining in tank prior to filling , cost me $28.85. Gas was 39.7 and I used a 4c/l off shopper docket. Watching all the plebs being ar*e raped buying petrol @ $1.35/ l I was the only bloke at the joing who walked out with a grin on my face.

Honestly i am not sure how i did it, must be a good setup.

I think its the fact i am using too small a converter for my setup, cause on gas she is a bit off on power up hills, alot of 4th gear work on the Sydney to Newcastle Freeway

My LPG guage doesn't work anymore cause i think the tank has taken a bit of a beating on the off road days and it always reads full even when empty

so now i have to guage my tank ont he K's the car does, never use Petrol unless i have to (which is like once every 2 months for 5 mins) so i have done plenty of readings and i am hitting 450/500K's on a taknk of LPG. 450 if i havew to do alot of up hill shit, 500 is its straight ciry runs, on the freeway i managed to make it from Gosford to Grafton on a single tank of LPG (600+K's ) and from Grafton to the entrance to Frasier Island on a single tank, so its doing pretty well

I will get a spec sheet from my LPG repairer on what parts are in my car for my LPG for comparason to yours if that might help

sorry to hijack the thread but craig (CB0569) are you sure you dont have broken engine mounts/tranny mounts causing this? I just had a fun weekend out having to use my winch to hold my motor down because my engine mount broke and the tailshaft was hitting the petrol tank.

on a better note, my GQ swb which desperately needs the carby to be rebuilt gets around 350k's on 33's on gas with a 70l tank

No i dont have any broken mounts. It`s just that i have A LOT of travel(eg springs will fall out easily on full travel) so much so that the wheels falls below the body line on travel.RANCHO RS9000 870mm long and it uses it all.
