Sheered Wheel Bolt
G'day guys, while trying to remove the wheel nuts on the fourby i just sheered one of the bolts (/pins?) right off. Can the individual bolts be replaced or am i up for a new front hub? It is an FJ40 with front discs, i need the quickest cheapest fix as i am going away tomorrow. Or will it be okay missing just one nut till i get back??
Cheers,
Adam

If it becomes a common problem you could also consider drilling and tapping the hubs to accept 100 series studs (10mm) which are heaps stronger than the 40/60/80 ones (8mm). Definitely fix it though.

Thanks for the replys guys, i ended up taking it into a 4x4 service center to get done (wont mention which one) as i didnt have time to do it myself as i was headed up to the snow the next morning. Ended up costing me 92 ****ing dollars AND on the way up the hume hwy just out of glenrowen i had to pull over as there was a violent shudder going through the steering. Got out and had a look and the stud they replaced had snapped, two wheel nuts missing (including one lock nut) and the remaining three were half undone! I thought they used rattle guns in these places, how the hell could they come undone like that on the hwy travelling at 90km/h???

If the same stud that snapped before broke again id be curious as to the strength of the stud they replaced it with. Really the new stud should be stronger than any of the old(er) ones.
Id probably go back and ask fur a full refund and the work to be corrected. If they dont do that id tell everyone i could how much of a bunch of dicks they are!.
G'day all, well i took it back yesterday and picked it up today. They ended up replacing all the wheel studs free of charge, which i thought was the least they could have done. Im just glad its out of the way now. The service manager was VERY apologetic as well which is always good to see.

some repairers are pathetic my mate went in for new tyres and they let him drive out with the wheel nuts finger tight, he went off his nut (red head)and didnt pay all the price.
I recently replaced my wheel studs, easy job and the cost was around $2.20 each. thats on a gq though.
