110 Tdi w/ZF, anyone?

Post by artm »

Presently have a '96 110 300Tdi and desparately wanting a ZF behind it. Anyone have any experience with this setup?

The truck is basically a people mover. My hope is to upgrade the intercooler, tune the pump, open up the exhaust, remove cat and get close to performance of my '97 D90 NAS (V8/ZF).

Maybe this is too much to hope for?

Get a zf box, mounts, bellhousing, shifter, flywheel, torque converter, kickdown cable and kickdown cable bracket off a smashed 1994-1999 300tdi series one. Pull out your old r380 box, flywheel etc and remove the small bronze spiggot from the middle of the crank. Bolt up the auto flywheel then torque converter and slide the box on. however if the box does not go on all the way DO NOT force it by tightening up the bolts on the bellhousing this will break the gear in the oil pump.(speaking through experience). Turn the motor until it lines up properly and slides All the way in. everything else is a bolt up fit, apart from making up a console extension for the shifter. if you have any troubles, give bruce davis a ring (davis performance landys) he has done a few, aswell as Gary Osborne (can someone post his company details i cant remember the name)

sorry, i just realised your location. Ignore the bruce davis and gary osborne bit. Um, rolled auto diesel discos arent very common over there are they....good luck finding bits.

Thanks for that but I already know how to do the conversion.

I'm mainly looking to see what the performance of this setup is from someone who's done it.

I'll try tracking down the folks you mentioned.

Try one of the uk forums as you will be more likely to find someone who has done it. Performance should be ok as your defender transfer has a lower gear set than a disco.

Tdi auto

Post by justinC »

I have a ZF including all bits to do the conversion, I had it for a Defender conversion but the customer didn't go ahead.

Everything goes straight in, the only issue is positioning the shifter neatly in the console.

Give me a ring on (03) 6229 1102 BH and I'll give you some more details.

Howz your 4bd1/ZF conversion going Justin? I'm very interested in a price etc for an adapter for my 110 Isuzu County.

Yeah, I'm eagerly waiting for an update on that. That was my first choice but without an adaptor I'll have to try the Tdi route.
