carpeting my drover

i took the drover swimming the other day and well it got wet

so i ripped out the old carpet as it was a bit feral. anyone else put in new carpet into their zook? or would it just be easier to find moulded carpet at a wreckers?
I was thinking marine grade carpet and some bitumen/felt underlay for noise absorbtion..

any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

go the marine stuff and dont bother with normal car carpet as ur only goin to drown it again.

Maybe take a look at getting the spray in ute liner instead of carpet. This way it doesn't absorb water.

Marine carpet is better than normal carpet as is does not absorb water, it does however retain water within the fibres.

Many years ago I wanted to reduce the noise inside my land cruiser,
so I put 3 layers of sisalation (builders foil) under the rubber mat,
it was amazing how much quieter it became

can't help with the carpet though,
carpet is like stereo's
only for soft cocks

Have you priced spray in liner? I got a quote the other day from Rhinocoat, they wanted ballpark $3000 for spraying a completely stripped zook shell supplied to them, both inside and out floor.
A little rich dont you think!

I took all the carpet out of mine so now i can just wash it out with the hose when the inside gets covered with mud.

It stinks after a few day lol and is really hard to get the mud of the standard carpet properly :/, takes ages..

if you buy a few meters of marine carpet and cutit up to fit in and get some velcro tabs or sumthing to hold it in...i think it should be good enough...the more time u spent the beter it will look.....iv also been thinking of replacing my vinal flore with marine carpet and thought that if u make it easy enought to remove wen it gets dirty you could pull it out n hose it off on the lawn....just some idears i was thinking of.....

you ca buy premoulded carpet at supercheap for the sierra... they have a moulded vynil option i'm going to look at for my suzuki... it';s like mouled vynil with carpet felt stuff underneath... i figure i cover the undeneath with another layer of vynl it should be semi waterproof (definately not swimmin-able) hopefully it cuts out on some noise

yeh i was thinking marine would be the go and i was going for the idea of clip in studs, the old vinyl underlay had them and i figure they would hold up longer term.

rhino spray stuff sounds steep! costs more than my little beast

what i am thinking is lay the underlay or staple it to the marine carpet and then stud/clip them in, so next time i go for a few laps she should be happy to get a hose out and then clip back in for next time... ill take photos of it as i think i may do it next weekend..

santos - that moulded vinyl sounds like a goer as well though hmm... what were they asking?

hehe so i am just soft then?? lol . builders foil you say? will have to ask my bricky mate to... ahem.

if anyone else is doing it i dont mind making a few templates and scanning them in, got an a3 scanner at work so that should be sweet. make templates out of paper and then cut from them...?

Tube of stone guard $15 x 4 should do two coats over the floor of a zook.

Stone guard is fine in the sun, sound deadner goes sticky in the sun. Two different products.

If you do a search for my build up you'll see what i used it for in my zook. Search for Nuki and you shal see.

Clark Rubber also sell a fibrous rubber mat, that allows water to flow through it at ground level. I think it gets used in wet areas as an antislip mat. Also available in a tin that you trowel on ~$60 for one metre square x 10 mm thick. Seriously considering it for the floor of mine (OK, those that know, have a laugh....)

Another thought is a self-bailer for small yachts mounted into the floor that uses venturi effect to drain out water in the cabin, as long as you are moving. Seals itself closed when you are stationary, also works to let water out of vehicle when on dry land/after hosing out - no more rubber bungs to lose:

Blue bit is a cam action lever to lower the stainless bit down into the water. Small horizontal line across the arc of the SS is the spring loaded hinged flap.

I recently bought some Herculiner for the inside of my zook..

It's similar to the spray in liners, but it is applied using a roller instead.

I'm sure it won't have the same sound deadening ability of the carpet, but since you will inevitably be putting water back in the car again, i wouldn't bother with the carpet.

thanks for the link greg.. can you provide an image of what the finished look, looks like?? i was thinking of going down that path but wasnt sure how messy it would get and if cleanup off the side panels... roof

damkia - that is a wicked idea for the draining of the water, depending on how big it is. it may be overkill - price wise? but i like the idea of not losing the bungs! they are slippery little suckers when muddy.

i have till this weekend to decide ..

Gary, I reckon you need bilge pumps and a snorkel for your ECM too

The tru fit moulded carpet is what I'm looking for. Woulda been sweet as except it only go's up to 89's. And I've got a 95. Shit.

There is no difference in the bodies anyway. It should fit fine between the models. Only main difference might be seat mounts or dash bits.

89' was a WT anyway the same as yours.

What about trusty Hammertone? I put it inside my ute and it's great. It covers heaps of little scraches and easy to touch up. Best of all it's pretty cheap, comes in a few colours and it's off the shelf!

just kidding mate, if it fits an 89, it will fit a 95

the only change I can think of that would effect the fit, would be the skinny trans tunnel of a 1L.

Does anyone have any hints as to how I could remove a large amount of engine oil + vegetable oil from the passenger side leg area of my suzuki? I am thinking of getting the front recarpeted, I might go price the marine carpet....

oil is a real bastard but i would go tons of degreaser.. get a few cans of it from super sh!t auto.

i have actually gone for the 6mm checkerplate rubber... and it looks awesome i like to think.

was about 60 bucks a metre though
