3B Turbo - oil pump capacity & oil ext. cooler?

Post by scotto »

3B takes 7 or so litres of oil.

Am about to put a turbo on it and have a filter adaptor, to run through tranny type cooler. Thinking if I ran a big cooler it'd keep them running temp a bit lower.

Is there a limit to oil pump capacity of the 3B pump = should I limit to the size of the cooler I could run to help keep the oil temp down?

theory is it would run a bit cooler.
and with an intercooler would be better off if i crank up the boost
But would I have problems with pump if I put say a 3 litre cooler on it?

Go the 3B

As long as the cooler can flow enough it could be a 10000 litre cooler and it wouldnt matter. Does it take only partial flow, or does all your oil have to flow through it? If all your oild you would proababnly need a good 3/4" at least cooler. Any smaller and you will be inhibiting the flow of oil (possibly restricting the oil from getting to some places).

Some of those external filter/ oil cooler adapters have a temperature bypass so that the engine gets up to running temperature before the cooler is used. This is important as your engine runs exceptionally more efficiently at operating temp. If it doesnt have this your engine will take longer to warm up... (extending the period of high wear)
