hay i was just wondering if a REAL suzuki serria ute is the same lenght as a LWB zook? i've got a real one but all the others around here are shorties

Depends if u have a SWB or LWB ute.

They came in both ute and hardtop in both SWB & LWB afaik.



IS there like a foot of gab between front door and rear arch compared to SWB ones? Thats the easy way to tell..

Correct, that's the easy way to tell. The overhang past the rear axle is longer in the LWB too. It's pretty hard to mistake one for the other. The ute (Stockman) chassis is same dimensions as a LWB chassis. There are additions for mounting the tray and the fuel tank is different but the two chassis are basically the same.

yeah by the sounds of it is a lwb i just wasn't sure if they where using a total differant chasse becuase what I've seen the lwb zooks look longer .... oh yeah measured hub to hub its about 2.4 meters

no such thing as a factory supplied SWB ute. The ute and LWB share the same wheelbase and basically the same frame. The tray top has towers that the tray is attached to.

Oh yes there is.....

Michael in our club has a genuine australian delievered SWB ute.

It has the maruti style FRP cab back and hard roof and I thought that it had just been fitted from a wrecked Maruti.

It's a 1989 model, and only about 400 chassis numbers different from Greg's black car, also at my place so it is easy to pick all the differences.

The differences from a SWB soft top are surprsing:
No provision for rear seats - no captive nuts at all in the floor otehr than to mount the bulkhead.
No soft top hardware on the tub
Very elaborate rubber seals for the hard roof
a different type of B pillar, more like a late NT one - scalloped inthe top corners for the hard roof but without any plastic trim.
Much bigger drain holes in the floor
A steel bulkhead fitted behind the front seats with captive nuts in the floor and tub to accept it
The glass in the hard cab back is "suzuki" in the glass not maruti as per the indian copy.

Michaels car was in use as a trolley tug and would have been very well suited to this application. IMHO there is no doubt that it came out of the factory in this configuation as the tub has enough differences that it could not have been done after purchase. In particular, the bulkhead is factory and very neat.

I have seen a couple of these cars aver the years, always white, always around '89 models. Maybe it was a factory model if you knew what to ask for. I always thougth they were I made it myself specials but now I know better.

On my rego papers my 'holden drover' was a 86 holden ute. Thank god I never got pulled over cause with the 1 litre grill I added after removing the holden badges would have made for an interesting discussion as to why my now seirra had holden ute plates :lol:

Christover is exactly right. There was a SWB ute in 1989/90, Suzuki called it a "sub ute", so it was a W/T. Eastern Creek raceway purchased several from me when I was selling Suzuki cars in 89' and I still have a Sierra brochure showing details/picture on the model. It came with the same style of roof set-up as a Maruti.

I was talking about a tray top. A ute traditionally has a tub separated from the cab by a hardtop. Going by some of these definitions any soft top is a ute

The Holden ute is a one piece body, as was the falcon ute for many years.

yes but the tub is separated from the cab by a hardtop fixed body. Not a removable/added on fibreglass canopy

And another "ute " introduced into Australia in 1989 was a limited edition LWB widetrack hardtop. Hardtop being only over the cab and straight down behind the seats. A metal non removable roof. Only 26 units imported to Australia.

I have a photo here in my zook scrapbook, if you want to see it.
