Hey Guys

Out of the last tank of fuel, i got just under 300kays ....300 bloody kays!!

Specs of my 4by is an 88tb4.2 carby, 4"lift 2"body, 33" bfg muddies, auto trans 95L fuel tank. Petrol only, not on gas.

Just rebuilt the carby hoping that would help but hasnt seemed to :(

What to do?

By the way, these kays were on road only, didnt go fourbying on this tank. and i was nannaing it to see if i could get better fuel economy.

yeah that doesn't seem very good at all after the money you've probably spent on that carby. have you changed the points and stuff? may i consider getting it tuned properly by a workshop. somewhere with an exhaust gas analyzer too!

Yeah thats a good idea . I know TB42's are bad on petrol but i think mine is a bit exsessive!

Speedo must have been re-adjusted becasuse i have checked it with a few cars and a gps and it is fine.

The fuel consumption has been getting progressivley worse over the last year.

my theory is that fuel economy is related to how much lift your truck has and the resulting wind drag. take it all back to standard and you'll get your economy back

i have 305/75 16 tyres and wow it really makes a huge impact on fuel consumption over standard but 300 k's wow that is excessive might as well do a v8 conversion would be cheaper mine is a 4.2 diesel and i get 660 k's out of my 90 litre tank though i only usually use 80 litres.
Did you buy bp fuel ?

my GQ SWB with 6" lift, 35's and auto, TB42 gets about 250ks out of around 75L casue i always fill up at the 1/4 tank mark,

The speedo may be accurate but is the odometer? I had my speedo recalibrated for the 35s, but my odometer is still wrong.

yeah before i went fuel injection i was getting atleast 450 kays to about 90 litres on 35's with 2 inch body and 2 1/2 inch spring lift....

but with a rebuilt carby it should certainly be 10 times better!

I would have thought when you recalibrate your speedo, your odometer would then in theory be recalibrated too cause the odo works off the speedo....

Have you serviced and tuned the car recently?

That would be my first stop, ultratune, or similar.. Dont tell them about it, then its their problem once you get shit economy after their work

Hmms 93 LWB TB42 with 75L petrol tank getting me 410km dry.
90L gas getting me 390km dry.

OT: Is it really bad to run either tanks dry? I do this all the time before switching to the alternative fuel.

just after a service

444km 90 litre gas to empty

456 70 litres of petrol to empty

89 lwb 2" body 2" sus running 32's

now a while sice last service 402 90 litres of gas and haven't fully tested the petrol

OK - so at $1.30 (say for fuel per litre, your 95 litres costs $123.50. You are oaying nearly 130 bucks just to get from the northern suburbs of Sydney to Canberra!

I think I'll keep the GQ TD42T - on 95 litres I'm getting nearly 700 kays..... 33" MTR's, lift, roofrack, rooftop tent and all....

My average is 4km/l in a Shorty on 33's just filled the car up yesterday $135 for 480km so yours isn't too bad. My worst economy is 2km/L.

I have replaced points, rebuilt carby, remapped dizzy, electronic ignition you name it, the economy hasn't really changed. I am going injected in a few weeks so we will se how we go then.

why do you think i went gen 3 hoping for 20l / 100. tb's just suck fuel wise, thats why so many run gas

On the Hwy I get about 10.5-11 Litres per 100km, so 700km is not unreasonable.

Turbo.

I'm getting around 10.5L/100km. 700 kays is only 66 litres - so I'm not running it dry.

I do, however, keep a jerry in the back....

get used to that kind of fuel ecc im lucky to get 350km out of a tank and thats highway thats why mine sits in the shed most of the time td rodeo cheaper to run get 11km/L out of it

Well i think ive found part of the problem.

Was inspecting the fuel filter and the fuel hose feeding the fuel filter was split and fuel leaking down the hose. Has always smelt of fuel under the bonnet but didnt think much of it. Replaced the fuel hose and filter and now i cant smell fuel!

Hopefully fuel consumption will improve. Im going down south this week so will see if it gets any better.

Umm i was talking about sneaky's fuel consumption i am happy with mine i would never go a v8 love the td 42 would be nice with a turbo though

Diesel fuel economy looks good, in my TD42 i got 530ks from 68L and i thought it was good, cant wait till i bolt on the turbo then
